Santander Corporate & Investment Banking (Santander CIB) is looking for a EXECUTION ANALYST based out of MADRID.

Santander is looking to incorporate a Junior Trader to join a highly dynamic and technology-driven trading desk. The aspirational aim of the role is to develop a well-rounded trading professional with strong technical and market expertise, capable of progressively taking ownership of Cash Equity trading activities and electronic trading solutions.

The role offers hands-on exposure to global equity markets, trading technology, and client interaction within an international environment. The successful candidate will work closely with senior traders and technology teams, contributing to the evolution of the desk’s electronic trading capabilities while building a solid understanding of market microstructure, execution quality, and best-execution frameworks.

This position is particularly suited to a junior profile with a strong technical background, high learning capacity, and a proactive mindset, who is motivated to grow into a client-facing trader role over time. It provides a unique opportunity to develop both trading and technological skills within one of the leading global financial institutions.

  • Take ownership of the desk’s operational procedures, supporting daily trading activities and ensuring accuracy, control, and compliance.
  • Support Cash Equity trading activities, including order handling and execution across global equity markets, under senior supervision.
  • Design, manage, and contribute to the development of all technological aspects of the Order Management System (OMS), from day-to-day usage and issue resolution to future enhancements.
  • Assist in managing OMS connectivity with clients, brokers, and third-party algorithms, ensuring efficient and reliable trading workflows.
  • Work closely with internal teams sharing the OMS, as well as with external brokers and clients, progressively taking on more responsibility.
  • Contribute to client-facing and commercial activities, supporting relationship management and service quality.
  • Develop and systematize Transaction Cost Analysis (TCA) models to support best execution monitoring and client-oriented post-trade reporting.
  • Perform End-of-Day checks and validations, ensuring data integrity and supporting a controlled trading environment.

Professional Experience

  • Junior profile with 1–2 years of professional experience in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Previous experience in trading or equity markets is not required; however, strong interest in financial markets, electronic trading, and technology-driven roles is essential.
  • Proven ability to work effectively under pressure, manage multiple tasks, and adapt quickly in demanding operational or analytical environments.
  • Demonstrated initiative, problem-solving skills, and willingness to contribute ideas and support their implementation within a team.

Education

  • Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, or similar analytical disciplines.
  • Programming or coding skills (e.g. Python, VBA, SQL or similar).

Languages

  • Fluent English and Spanish.
  • Additional European languages.

Hard Skills

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to understand data-driven trading processes.
  • Proficiency with Excel and market information platforms (e.g. Bloomberg) or equivalent analytical tools.
  • Technical skills such as macro writing, use of APIs, or development of advanced analytical spreadsheets.

Soft Skills

  • High levels of curiosity, focus, attention to detail, and dedication, with the ability to work effectively under pressure
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with colleagues, clients, brokers, and providers
  • Proactive mindset with willingness to learn and grow in a fast-paced, global markets environment
