The Role & What You Will Be Doing

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Mechanical Design Engineer will have a key role to play as part of the engineering team, with key responsibilities in the area of equipment reliability, introduction of new products and equipment, and the implementation and development of new engineering technologies.

  • Implement maintenance strategy aligned with the company's goals and objectives, including establishing and maintaining a comprehensive maintenance programme to ensure the reliability and availability of all equipment.
  • Provide strong leadership to the maintenance teams, while fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor KPIs for equipment breakdowns and PMs, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with regulatory requirements, including FDA and GMP standards and maintain accurate documentation/records to support regulatory audits and inspections.
  • Promote a culture of safety responsibility within the engineering and maintenance team.
  • Engage in cross-functional team activities to address and mitigate any root cause problems with preventative maintenance and machine performance.
  • Support the Engineering Department on improvement projects to increase and maintain equipment reliability.
  • Develop preventive maintenance methods to minimise mean time between failure and maximise OEE.
  • Train and support Engineering Technicians to ensure that they are equipped to complete daily operational specific tasks.

About Your Skills & Experience

For this role, we’re looking for a candidate who has an effective combination of the following qualifications, skills and experiences:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience in Pharmaceutical manufacturing and/or Biotechnology Operations/GMP environment.
  • Experience on any of the following would be a distinct advantage: TrackWise, SAP PM, D2 Documentum.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications, MS Project.
  • Strong technical knowledge of equipment reliability engineering.
  • Technical writing skills (Investigation reports and SOP updates).
  • Hands-on experience in maintenance, design and application.
  • Experience in developing/implementing maintenance programmes.
  • Support the maintenance and improvement of all Engineering online databases and registers.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently as well as a part of a team.
  • Self-driven, proactive and flexible.
