Job Summary:
The Technical Product Owner works as a member of a Scrum Team to help maximize the value of the product and the work of the Scrum Development Team. The Technical Product Owner’s primary task is to create and manage the Product Backlog and to ensure everyone knows the priorities of the Product Backlog. The Technical Product Owner is empowered to make all decisions regarding the Product Backlog. The Technical Product Owner is typically the individual closest to the business side of the project.

What You Will Do:

  • Coordinates with Software Engineers to track and communicate design, development, support, and maintenance problems and solutions.
  • Identifies, documents, and reports design, reliability and maintenance problems and bugs. Gathers and consolidates feedback from customers.
  • Coordinates with support specialists and customers to address and resolve problems and expand product usage.
  • Answers customer and support questions; provides guidance and support for product feature delivery.

  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Extensive knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
  • Effective Communications: Extensive understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Software Engineering: Knowledge of software engineering; ability to deliver new or enhanced fee-based software products.
  • Software Problem Management: Working knowledge of strategies, practices and tools for resolving software problems; ability to manage software problems in installed software products.
  • Software Product Business Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of and experience with the business aspects and operation of a software product; ability to manage install base, current uses, future plans, and product vision. 

Considerations For Top Candidates:

  • Experience managing projects using Agile software tools such as Mingle, VSTS, JIRA, Team Services, Rally, Azure DevOps
  • Experience working with onshore/offshore team model
  • Demonstrated ability to empower teams
  • Strong accountability, teamwork, and interpersonal skills, and communication skills
  • Knowledge of SDLC and demonstrated experience employing SDLC in aspects of the project management process
  • Good knowledge of Caterpillar policies, standards, procedures, and a broad understanding of Caterpillar’s organization
  • Hands on software development in languages like Python, Java, etc.
  • Ability to read and write advanced SQL 

Summary Pay Range:

$95,640.00 - $155,400.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
