About This Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for a Lecturer in Design to contribute to a growing, interdisciplinary design program within the School of Architecture, Design and Planning (ADP). Working in a collaborative, ambitious and inclusive academic community, you will draw on your expertise in design education and practice to enrich curriculum, enhance student experience and build a strong teaching and research profile. You will play a key role in shaping contemporary design education that responds to industry, society and the challenges of a rapidly changing world.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Teaching: Develop, coordinate and deliver high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate courses, contribute to innovative curriculum design, assess student learning, provide academic advice, and uphold University rules and standards relating to teaching and learning.

  • Research: Establish and grow an independent and/or collaborative research program, contribute to competitive research funding applications, publish in high-quality refereed outlets, and engage in research activities that achieve national recognition and impact.

  • Supervision and Researcher Development: Contribute to the supervision of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students, support researcher development, and participate in academic leadership and people management activities as required at program level.

  • Citizenship and Service: Actively contribute to program-level service, committees and decision-making, foster partnerships with industry, government and the wider community, mentor colleagues, and consistently demonstrate UQ values through collegial and professional conduct.

About You

You will bring a combination of scholarly capability, design practice expertise and a passion for teaching that enables you to make a meaningful contribution to interdisciplinary design education.

You will demonstrate:

  • Completion of a PhD or equivalent professional standing, supported by significant industry experience in design practice.

  • Evidence of high-quality university teaching across a variety of settings, including course coordination responsibilities.

  • Experience contributing to curriculum development and innovation in design education.

  • A growing research profile with evidence of publications in refereed journals and presentations at conferences.

  • Experience, or emerging capability, in seeking, obtaining and managing external research funding.

  • A developing record of supervision of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students.

  • Active engagement in internal service roles and external professional or industry activities.

  • Technical and digital proficiency relevant to contemporary design practice, with sustainability-focused design methods regarded as an asset.
