The Team:

You will lead and manage the Market Engagement & Communications team in Japan which is part of the Commercial organization at S&P Global Ratings. The team is accountable for strengthening S&P Global Ratings investor franchise and gaining investor advocacy in Japan. The Impact:

You will be responsible for developing, managing and executing strategic Market Outreach and Marketing initiatives to drive franchise development, mainly targeting Japanese investors, and to generate demand for our Credit Ratings and Ancillary/Other products offered by S&P Global Ratings. You will also share market insights gained in the investor interactions with the analytical team to help them plan their activities and research.

  • In this role you will also develop a keen understanding of entity and sector fundamentals while working alongside analytical team to deliver outreach and hear market views.
  • The role will also have some regional and global responsibilities providing you a global vantage point.   

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Market Engagement & Communication team in Japan.
  • Develop, manage and execute the strategic Market Outreach and the Marketing initiatives including leading Investor Value Program (IVP). This includes ‘first line’ of engagement with the market in relation to analytical, research and criteria matters and facilitates effective interaction between the market and the analytical teams.
  • Provide tangible actionable feedback to the commercial team around innovation, product development and engagement opportunities from market interactions.
  • Gather and curate investor feedback and needs to inform analytical team’s outreach and research pipeline.
  • Act as a liaison for Japanese investors that invest in offshore bonds so that the investors can interact with offshore analysts.
  • Execute strategic initiatives including increasing market acceptance by driving proactive engagement in sustainable finance
  • Closely work with other functions in the Tokyo office to achieve strong local governance to meet regulatory requirements and expectations.
  • Collaborate across S&P Global divisions by sharing relevant insights gained and opportunities sighted.
  • Chair thought leadership council in Japan to streamline thought leadership publishing/events and curate local newsletters to engage local market participants.
  • Provide backup support to marketing/communication initiatives in Japan coordinating with global marketing/communication teams.

What We’re Looking For:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Working experience in financial services industry including customer facing role
  • Good understanding of financial markets and market participants especially in Japan
  • An understanding of S&P Global Ratings business and products.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills in both Japanese and English
  • Ability to proactively lead the team and work with minimal supervision
  • Bachelor or advanced degree.
  • Familiarity with CRM tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • In-depth understanding of markets/customers as well as S&P Global Ratings analytical approach
  • An effective multi-stakeholder manager i.e. S&P Global Ratings (both Analytical/Commercial) and market participants.
  • Knowledge of Credit Rating and its Analytical Methodology, ideally on Structured Finance including CLOs
  • Working experience in credit analysis, structure finance
  • Relevant experience in ESG Sustainability relating to investment, asset management or other related fields.
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements and ability to adapt to global environment.
  • Experience in managing a small team
