Job Summary:

Senior Director of Principal Gifts is primarily responsible for advancing a donor portfolio of principal gift prospects and donors in the $100,000 -- $1,000,000+ gift range across a variety of areas, particularly in the areas. Responsible for working with the Executive Director of Development to develop, implement, and track strategic philanthropic direction. Supervise direct fundraising staff within the development office who are responsible for principal gifts across specified constituencies (Children’s of Mississippi, UMMC schools, institutional giving, and planned giving). Leverage both grateful patient fundraising efforts across all clinical areas and alumni and annual giving contacts to increase overall fundraising. Support the launch and growth of new programs and systems that elevate the profile and philanthropic success of UMMC's development program.

Education & Experience

Education and Experience Required:

Bachelor's degree and ten (10) years of progressive supervisory experience to include five (5) years of experience in development, fundraising, charitable giving, or sales.

Certifications, Licenses, or Registration Required:

N/A

Preferred Qualifications:

Higher educational institutional supervisory experience strongly preferred. CPA, MBA, or an advanced degree in healthcare and fundraising certifications preferred.

Superior writing skills; the ability to develop and edit clear, articulate, grammatically correct, persuasive, donor communications. Ability to think critically and assess processes and work flow in a supervisory capacity. Ability to maintain confidentiality on behalf of philanthropic donors and medical center colleagues. Understanding of major issues and trends in healthcare and philanthropy. Outstanding organizational, project management, and time management skills.

Responsibilities:

• Advances a leadership portfolio of donors and prospects from alumni, grateful patients, and friends across  the state and country, in the $50,000 -- $1,000,000+ gift range.
• Supervises staff and processes assigned by the Exec Dir-Development, including providing appropriate training and management of team members to advance the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of various constituencies.
• Collaborates effectively with the Exec. Director of Development to develop, implement, and track strategic planning goals.
• Coordinates with strategic partnership and special projects team members to advance prospects to major gift levels.
• Communicates at a leadership level with internal and external stakeholders.
• Maintains current and comprehensive donor records, both electronic and hard copy.
• Collaborates effectively with the exec. Director of development to provide leadership, as needed, to ensure that all possible gift solicitation / acknowledgment / stewardship opportunities are realized.
• Supervises the execution of articulate, tailored, gift acknowledgment letters.
• Complies with established institutional and departmental policies and, when needed, helps design and implement new development office processes.
