Position Summary


The BlackBerry IoT Business Unit combines BlackBerry’s core IoT assets across the company. One of groups within the IoT Business Unit is BlackBerry Radar, which is an innovative service for managing and optimizing fleet operations for businesses in the transportation sector.

The BlackBerry Radar Cloud Services Development team is focused on developing asset tracking software services that will be used businesses that rent or own railcar, chassis, trailers, and/or cargo carrying containers. The service allows customers to manage their Radar equipped fleet by providing location tracking, a host of rich sensor readings, alerts on meaningful events, analytics on their behavioral data, integration into other back-office systems such as transportation management systems, and much more. 

The BlackBerry Radar group is looking for a Senior Data Systems Developer to join our BlackBerry Radar Cloud Services team where we are developing technology to help the transportation industry move into the Internet age by connecting their assets to the Cloud. 

Location: Ottawa, ON

 What you will do

  • Design, Develop and maintain high performance, scalable data pipelines to seamlessly transport data between systems
  • Design and implement Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) solutions to prepare data for analysis
  • Conduct data quality checks and implement measures to ensure data accuracy and integrity
  • Utilize services and tools to automate data pipelines to optimize data retrieval
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support data analysis, data mapping and reporting needs
  • Document data engineering processes and create data flow diagrams
  • Provide technical expertise and support for data-related issues, including troubleshooting and resolving data pipeline failures

What we need you to bring

  • 5+ years of software development experience
  • 2+ years of data engineering experience working with data lakes, data warehouses, and big data
  • Database experience with MySQL, OpenSearch, and analytical databases such as Apache Druid, StarRocks, Apache Pinot
  • Experience with the following tools and languages: Apache Spark, Apache Flink, Java, Python
  • Experience creating and maintaining data pipelines
  • Experience with Business Intelligence platforms, e.g. PowerBI, Tableau, Looker
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • High degree of motivation, sense of urgency, and ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Engineering or Computer Science degree
