Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Manager 2, Shock Isolation System (SIS)/Upper Launch Tube (ULT) with the background, vision, and people skills to lead the Launch Equipment organization within the Command & Launch (C&L) Infrastructure Integrated Product Team (IPT). This position will be located in Roy, UT and will support the Sentinel program.

What You'll Get To Do:
The SIS/ULT Manager is responsible for the design and development mechanical equipment, such as shock isolation systems, that perform pivotal Weapon System functions within the Command and Launch architecture. This role oversees a team of Mechanical and Structural engineers responsible for the development of the Launch Equipment subsystems through product-level qualification. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Organizational Leadership:

• Setting a vision for and leading a team of engineers and management staff to execute the Mission Equipment scope of work.

• Performing financial and performance analyses to develop and implement long-term staffing plans and process improvements.

• Providing mentorship and growth opportunities to the Mission Equipment team and growing a strong leadership bench.

Program Execution:

• Driving on-time delivery of Mission Equipment work products to support the design timelines of the Mission Subsystems organization. 

• Utilizing earned value management and other financial tools to plan, execute, and report status. 

• Supporting the integrated planning of complex interdependent projects to support Sentinel program milestones, balancing prioritization of Engineering resources between competing projects and teams. 

• Ensuring schedules and program plans are credible, substantiated by quantitative data, and bounded by risks and opportunities.

• Supporting a comprehensive risk and opportunity management program for the Infrastructure IPT.

Communication:

• Negotiating competing priorities and interests across a wide range of internal and external stakeholder communities to pursue the best course of action for the Sentinel program.

• Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with a wide range of distinct customer communities, subcontractors, and industry partners. 

• Providing regular briefings, reports, and other communications to executive leadership.

Technical Excellence:

• Ensuring adherence to the Sentinel technical baseline and associated processes for the Mission Equipment team.

• Balancing stringent quality standards for technical artifacts (e.g. Product Data Packages) with the rapid pace of procurement, fabrication, and construction of test assets and early prototypes. 

• Making informed decisions between conflicting technical approaches based upon program and IPT-level cost, schedule, and technical impacts and risk. 

• May be required to travel up to 25% of the time.

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 6 years of relative technical experience or Master's Degree with 4 years of relevant experience

• Must have an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope, with an ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business need 

• At least 1 year of experience leading a project and/or driving performance against schedule

• 1+ years of experience with design and development of large mechanical systems

• 1+ years experience in shock and vibration analysis and mitigation techniques

• 3+ years of experience with CAD modeling

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

• Active Sentinel Program SAP clearance

• ICBM Experience

• Experience with NX CAD modeling software

• Experience in dynamics, including knowledge of kinematics and kinetics, as well as experience with motion analysis and dynamic modeling

• Experience with subcontract management

• Cost Account Manager training and/or experience managing programs or subcontracts in an Earned Value framework

• Strong understanding and broad application of engineering systems (engineering standards, configuration management, material review board, process control, tooling, facilities, software, etc.)

• Strong oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated experience with high value customer presentations, with ability to focus on multiple projects with competing priorities

• Demonstrated experience in making sound decisions in uncertain and difficult situations

Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
