Job Description Summary

GE Vernova seeks a senior leader responsible for directing full life-cycle management of all facilities, environmental health & safety (EHS) and security operations for our GE Vernova Advanced Research center, including delivering on the muti-year buildout of the campus.

This role carries full enterprise accountability for physical infrastructure, safety, security, and operational environment enabling breakthrough R&D across our multi-campus platform supporting 500+ engineers and scientists.

With multi-$100M’s in total capital deployment, this leader will drive strategic execution of large-scale multi-campus development and operations while managing complex regulatory compliance across federal, state, and local jurisdictions. This role reports to the VP of Advanced Research and serves as principal interface with government entities, regulatory agencies, and C-suite stakeholders.

Job Description

ENTERPRISE ACCOUNTABILITIES

Strategic Portfolio & Capital Leadership

  • Full accountability for $150M+ capital expansion and campus operations budget across 3 research campuses
  • Principal decision authority on capital allocation, site development, and operational investments
  • Direct management of general contractors, design firms, and major vendors
  • Lead government incentive negotiations, tax abatements, and economic development agreements
  • Primary interface with federal (DoD, DOE), state, and local officials on regulatory approvals and permitting

Complex Regulatory Environment Management

Navigate intersecting regulatory frameworks across multiple jurisdictions:

  • OSHA (research labs, high-hazard operations, construction)
  • EPA (air permits, RCRA hazardous waste, EPCRA/Tier II, water quality)
  • DoD security (NISPOM, classified information, facility clearances)
  • DOE compliance for energy research programs
  • State/local building codes, fire codes, environmental permits, zoning

Strategic relationship management with regulatory agencies balancing compliance and research enablement

Principal authority for permits, renewals, variance requests, and agency negotiations

EHS Leadership

  • Ultimate accountability for safety of 500+ personnel in high-hazard multidisciplinary R&D (high-voltage, chemical processing, mechanical test, laser/radiation, cryogenics)
  • Strategic ownership of enterprise EHS system targeting TRIR <0.5, zero serious injuries
  • Direct accountability for OSHA, EPA, DOT, and state agency compliance
  • Principal interface with regulatory agencies during inspections and investigations
  • Drive behavioral safety culture integrated into research planning
  • Authority to stop work when safety is at risk

Security & Risk Management

  • Ultimate accountability for DoD Top Secret cleared facility and NISPOM compliance
  • Manage intersection of physical, personnel, information, and operations security in active research environment
  • Balance open collaboration, proprietary protection, and classified program security
  • Crisis management and business continuity for mission-critical operations

Organizational Leadership

  • Lead multidisciplinary team spanning facilities, EHS, security, and capital projects
  • Management of trade and craft workforce (maintenance, electricians, HVAC, operators)
  • Oversee union relationships and labor relations as applicable
  • Partner with Research leadership to align infrastructure with scientific priorities

This position requires strategic thinking, regulatory sophistication, stakeholder management, safety leadership, and enterprise accountability expected of senior leadership.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 10 or more years' experience in Capex programs, EHS, and/or NISPOM compliance activities/management
  • Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY
  • Must be 18 years or older

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $147,900.00 and $246,500.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.

 

 

Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
