The Opportunity

This position works out of our Portland, OR location in the Heart Failure Division. In Abbott’s Heart Failure (HF) business, we’re developing solutions to diagnose, monitor and manage heart failure, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives.

As the SENIOR ENGINEER, CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT & OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE.  You will be leading the analysis, design, and implementation of manufacturing and business process improvements of sub-components manufactured for Abbott medical devices. You will leverage a variety of system improvement philosophies to achieve reductions of work-in-process, lead-time, and improve the efficiency and yields of a new production line.

What You’ll Work On

  • Analyze, create and implement manufacturing and/or business process improvements that increase capacity, reduce lead-time, reduce work in process and improve the quality, cost and delivery performance of Abbott.

  • Complete internal capacity analysis for headcount, equipment, and space requirements.

  • Identify opportunities and drive use of Lean tools, such as 5S, time study, line balancing, standard work, material flow and value stream mapping, process mapping and Kaizen event, into the daily functions of continuous improvement.

  • Implement and maintain Cost Improvement and Gross Margin metrics for site leadership team.

  • Participate as a core member in cross-functional teams to quickly troubleshoot and eliminate product supply issues, both internally and at suppliers.

  • Cultivate an internal and external network of resources.

  • Make recommendations which drive higher yields, lower costs, and more manufacturable products.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Minimum of 6 years related work experience in Continuous Improvement, Operational Excellence, and/or Business Excellence

  • Ability to work on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors.

  • Strong understanding of business unit function and cross group dependencies/relationships.

  • Self-motivated, results focused, and resourceful individual, who can work with minimal direction

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (preferably Biomedical, Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, or Industrial)

  • Work Experience in a highly-regulated industry (e.g. medical, pharmaceutical, aerospace, or defense)

  • Continuous Improvement experience with Class III medical devices

  • Individual who drives high standards and tenaciously works to meet or exceed challenging goals

The base pay for this position is

$72,700.00 – $145,300.00
