Are you a Sr. Project Engineer looking to lead the resolution of engineering-related actions and issues, ensuring the timely closure of documents, decisions, and barriers to project completion? If so, this opportunity is for you. You will be accountable for the engineering deliverables for assigned projects.

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Eight years of related work experience
  • Undergraduate degree in Mechanical or Metallurgical Engineering, Applied Science or equivalent
  • Member of or eligible to become a member of APEGA (P. Eng)
  • Non-authoritative leadership skills with the ability to influence effectively
  • General familiarity with a broad field of engineering and/or a sound knowledge of engineering principles within a specific field, along with the knowledge of reciprocal effects of the work upon other fields
  • Previous experience with Hot Taps and Line Stops is considered an asset

Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for the engineering deliverables produced for assigned projects by Engineering third party, which may extend beyond their specific discipline of expertise
  • Create scope definition, outlining the scope of work for third-party engineering support, including managing bid requests. Develop the Engineering Review Plan, which may take the form of a Document Distribution Matrix to ensure a clear and efficient review process
  • Oversee the engineering design process, working closely with EP teams and managing change controls (e.g., Design Change Notices (DCN), Management of Change (MOC), Request for Information (RFI)) to ensure project alignment
  • Ensure safety in design by supporting the Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), model reviews, and constructability reviews to maintain project safety standards
  • Facilitate document reviews with key stakeholders to ensure quality, compliance, and alignment with project requirements
  • Track and report on the progress of all engineering activities and deliverables to the Project Manager, ensuring alignment with project timelines
  • Support the project close-out report and capture lessons learned for future improvement
  • Lead technical and commercial bid evaluations of engineered equipment, ensuring a thorough and objective process. Provide clear communication with project construction management personnel as required
  • Work closely with Construction Coordinators to meet project deliverables

Location and other Key Details: 

  • You will work out of Syncrude Mildred Lake site in Fort McMurray
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
  • Our engineering roles follow internal compensation guidelines and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work
