About Your Role:

As a Legal Intern at our corporate office, you’ll partner with the Legal Department and Sustainability leads to develop a comprehensive business and regulatory case for high-impact environmental initiatives. You’ll use your keen research skills to evaluate the feasibility of material recovery programs (specifically focusing on logistics and backhauling) while investigating regulatory hurdles and providing risk-mitigation recommendations to the leadership team.

Your day-to-day duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Regulatory Analysis: Perform in-depth research of federal, state, and local environmental and waste management regulations to support the implementation of national material recovery programs.
  • Business Case Development: Assist in drafting a comprehensive legal and operational business case, quantifying potential cost savings, revenue opportunities, and sustainability benefits.
  • Risk & Compliance: Evaluate current operational practices to identify legal liabilities and logistics opportunities within the existing supply chain network.
  • Contractual Review: Support the legal team in reviewing vendor agreements and logistics contracts to ensure alignment with sustainability goals and "Zero Waste" initiatives.
  • Impact Initiatives: Support legal workflows for excess inventory donation processes to enhance efficiency, mitigate liability, and increase diversion from landfills.
  • Strategic Reporting: Prepare reports and white papers recapping the legal feasibility of packaging reduction efforts and other corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
  • Strategic Proposals: Propose action plans to capitalize on emerging ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) trends and mitigate regulatory risks.

Your Required Skills and Experience:

  • Current Law Student: Must be enrolled in an ABA-accredited JD program.
  • Analytical Rigor: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex statutes and regulations.
  • Communication: Exceptional writing skills with the ability to translate legal research into actionable business advice.
  • Detail Oriented: Meticulous attention to detail and a high level of organizational skill.
  • Adaptability: Strong ability to work in a multi-task and fast-paced corporate environment.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Coursework or experience in Environmental Law, Corporate Law, or Regulatory Compliance is preferred.
