Job Summary

RISD Continuing Education seeks a Camp Operations Coordinator who can enhance summer camp programming for 6-12 year old students at RISD's Tillinghast Place in Barrington, RI. An effective candidate will be able to provide support for students, parents and instructors during the summer camp session. This position will help ensure a positive, meaningful, and rich learning environment for students. The Coordinator will support drop-off and pick-up procedures for students, maintain studios and facilities requests, assist instructors and teaching assistants and maintain regular communication with parents and CE staff.

Essential Functions:

  • Oversee all operations at the Tillinghast campus in Barrington, RI, encompassing program management, student experience (recreation & learning), safety drills, communications, and facilities.

  • Support the Pre-College and teen in person teams with supply and room setup tasks as needed and prior to camp beginning 

  • Maintaining an on-site presence at Tillinghast throughout the camps.

  • Implementing student check-in and sign-out procedures.

  • Providing support to instructors and TAs in the classroom including coverage when needed.

  • Ensuring regular communication with parents/guardians, CE staff, and other campus partners to ensure accurate and timely information on policies and procedures, and addressing individual student concerns.

  • Ensuring all students have necessary emergency information on file and assisting with information collection and follow-up.

  • Managing classroom set-up and supplies.

  • Management of on-site staff, including CE Assistants. 

  • Regularly connecting with CYP Program Manager on updates and escalated issues

  • Supporting day-to-day needs and expectations of instructors, teaching assistants, and camp staff.

  • Handling facilities requests and overseeing studio maintenance, ensuring campus partners are informed of facilities needs.

  • Provide limited emergency response per CE’s and RISD’s emergency response protocol if and when needed.

  • Support pre and post logistical needs for all children, youth, and pre-collegiate summer opportunities

  • Participate in and lead post-camp recaps and assessments 

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with interviewing and hiring camp instructors.

  • Updating training materials for camp instructors.

  • Leading camp instructor onboarding, lesson planning, and training.

  • Reviewing and approving lesson plans.

  • Undertaking ongoing administrative tasks such as responding to emails and attending meetings.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Experience:

  • Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required. 

  • Experience working with databases and proficiency with the technology required, with preference given to experience with 25Live, Workday, Destiny Solutions or an equivalent SIS. 

  • Experience leading and supporting others with day to day program tasks is preferred

  • Must be innovative and solution-oriented, able to work independently and as a part of a highly collaborative team.

  • Demonstrated commitment to working with a diverse population of students, instructors, and staff. 

  • Creativity, flexibility, and broad cultural experiences and personal warmth are essential. 

  • The ability to travel to off-site locations.

  • Must be available to work 8 weeks and attend all mandatory training. 

  • Must be trained in First Aid and CPR response (training available)
