Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems sector has an opening for a Flight Test Operations and Engineering IPT Director 1 position to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position is located in Edwards AFB, CA.

The Flight Test Operations and Engineering IPT Director is responsible for the execution of the ground and flight test execution for a large flight test program. The position functionally reports to the Aeronautics Sector Test & Evaluation Vice President and receives day to day direction from the Strike Program Operating Unit Directors and Program Chief Engineer.  This position is responsible for coordination of the ground and flight test events and the day-to-day direction of the flight test execution team that includes multi-discipline engineers, test directors, test conductors and test pilots. Primarily at Edwards AFB, CA. This position will interface directly with the flight test leadership team to ensure that the execution schedule and test article maintenance and modifications supports the program milestones and execution goals.  

Primary duties include:

  • Leading all aspects of managing a program's Ground and Flight Test Engineering and Operations organization, Personnel, Equipment, Processes, External Range Resource Coordination, Scheduling, Tools, Laboratories (Infrastructure & Operations), which support Flight and Ground Test execution. Support proposal development activities.

  • Interface with government test team partners in a combined test force to ensure combined program goals are met on schedule and within the cost boundaries of the program

  • Interface with program leadership team to coordinate support from design team and ensure timely coordination of anomaly resolution and system modification/upgrades

  • Strategic planning of multi-year EMD flight test campaign ensuring the timely execution of program goals and program performance measures.

  • Maintain performance metrics and report daily status to Program Management. Develop and track closure plans for Issue closure and Risk mitigation.

  • Assess Earned Value progress and forecast EAC. Responsible for partnering with Functional Home Room on staffing and employee skill development to meet Program needs.

  • Manage daily compliance with policies and procedures including security, property management, calibration, training, configuration control, and test conduct.

Some travel may be required depending on program needs (up to 25% of time). The position is not a candidate for remote or hybrid work.

 Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline with 10 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering OR a Master of Science degree in a STEM discipline and 8 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering

  • Must have 6 years leadership/management experience

  • Must have experience supporting flight test operations in a multi-discipline mission control room environment

  • Must have experience in Aircraft Operations/Maintenance/Testing & Flight or Ground Test Experience as an Individual Contributor or Manager/Director

  • Must have an active DoD Top Secret clearance (or higher) that has been granted or reissued in the last 6 years or is currently enrolled in continuous evaluation.

  • Must have ability to obtain and maintain Access (PAR) within a reasonable period, as determined by the company to meet its business needs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Special Program Access (SAP)

  •  Experienced with hands on air vehicle operation in a pilot or ground operator role.

  • Experience developing & implementing action plans to improve strategic growth using continuous improvement techniques spanning across a large organization.

  • Military or Civil Test Pilot School Graduate

Salary Range: $190,600.00 - $286,000.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
