The Assistant Project Manager (APM) will be responsible for assisting in the management and coordination of large-scale substation projects, specifically focusing on 400 KV and 765 KV systems. This role requires a seasoned professional with substantial experience in the substation sector, adept at supporting the Project Manager in delivering projects on schedule, within budget, and to stringent quality standards.

What will you do? /Key Responsibilities:

Project Planning and Execution:

  • Collaborate in the development and execution of detailed project plans, schedules, and budgets.
  • Track project progress and provide timely updates to the Project Manager.
  • Liaise with stakeholders to ensure project objectives are clearly communicated and met.

Technical Oversight:

  • Offer technical support and insights for 400 KV and 765 KV substation projects.
  • Ensure project compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and best practices.
  • Review and endorse technical documents, drawings, and specifications.

Team Coordination:

  • Assist in the management of project teams, including engineers, technicians, and contractors.
  • Facilitate effective communication among team members and stakeholders.
  • Support the resolution of technical issues and team conflicts.

Quality and Safety:

  • Implement and oversee quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) procedures.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols and foster a culture of safety.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to verify compliance with project requirements.

Procurement and Vendor Management:

  • Assist in the procurement of materials and equipment necessary for project execution.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to ensure timely delivery and quality of project components.
  • Evaluate and manage the performance of vendors and suppliers.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain comprehensive and accurate project documentation, including progress reports, meeting minutes, and change orders.
  • Prepare and present detailed project status reports to stakeholders and senior management.
  • Ensure proper record-keeping and documentation for project completion and handover.

Risk Management:

  • Identify potential project risks and assist in developing mitigation strategies.
  • Monitor and manage risks throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Assist in the preparation and execution of contingency plans.

Experience, Education and other Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from a reputed university.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in substation projects, with significant exposure to 400 KV and 765 KV systems.
  • Proven track record in assisting with the management of large-scale, high-voltage substation projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of substation design, construction, and commissioning processes.
  • Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., IEEE, IEC) and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent organizational, multitasking, and time-management skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera).
  • PMP or equivalent project management certification is desirable.
  • Experience with digital substations and advanced protection systems.
  • Knowledge of automation and control systems used in substations.
