In support of Enterprise objectives, deliverables, and priorities, the Product Compliance Analyst supports product development, product enhancement, compliance, and State filings.   Key accountabilities for this role include (but are not limited to): drafting forms to meet Business needs and comply with State and Federal requirements, review of incoming regulatory changes, impact assessment on existing Assurant products, prepare and submit filings to the State Insurance Departments for approval, and updating internal systems with all filing documentation. Some additional responsibilities may include: assistance with preparing responses to Market Conduct inquiries, Litigation support, State Surveys/Inquiries, and other special projects.

What will be my duties and responsibilities in this job? 

  • Review incoming regulatory changes from OneSumX and determine impact on Assurant programs/products.
  • Prepare internal compliance reviews that summarize regulatory changes and outline changes required to filed forms, rates and/or rules. [10%]
  • Draft policy language that is clear, concise, and in compliance with all State and Federal laws, as well as achieving Company desired results.    This includes sending forms, rates and/or rules for internal review and sign-off. 
  • Analyst updates policy language based on input received from Business, Operations, Claims, Underwriting, Actuarial and Legal. Analyst may also be required to gather competitor filings for Business partners. 
  • Submit new product, product enhancements, or compliance filings to the State Insurance Departments. 
    • This function requires the Analyst to: 
      • (a) analyze and prepare checklists (both external and internal), certifications, transmittals, and submission letters
      • (b) submit filings to the State Insurance Departments via SERFF.  If electronic filings are not accepted by the State Department of Insurance, email or mail filings to the State
      • (c) Pay filing fees via EFT.  For mailed filings, request checks to cover filing fees
      • (d) If it is determined that filing is exempt from submission to the Department of Insurance, Analyst will prepare a Filing Assessment Memo (FASM) with backup to support the filing exemption and provide to Manager for review and approval
      • (e) Submit annual filings by State driven due dates.  [55%]
  • The Analyst will also prepare responses to objections and inquiries from Insurance Departments regarding product and/or compliance filings.  This function requires the Analyst to: 
    • (a) review Department of Insurance objections, analyze cited statutory reference and revise forms and reports accordingly
    • (b) coordinate with other internal areas, if required, to respond to Department of Insurance’s questions
    • (c) in certain cases, and under the supervision of the Manager, explain the Company’s position regarding some aspect of the policy/service contract structure or language, or Company procedures and negotiate with the State insurance examiner to arrive at the desired result.  [15 %]
  • The Analyst may research and gather Company filings and provide responses to: (a) Market Conduct requests; (b) State surveys; (c) Data calls; (d) Litigation requests; (e) Department inquiries; and/or (f) Internal and External audits. [5%]
  • The Analyst will complete all State Filing System requirements once an approval is received from the Department of Insurance such as, complete supplemental data, replacement, and marketed product association information, generate distribution memo, and publish information to internal users. Utilize OneSumX to maintain the statuses for various filing projects by State. [15%]
  • An entry-level Product Compliance Analyst will work on product enhancements or less complex regulatory reports; they will not work on new product development or complex regulatory reports until they are able to demonstrate appropriate product/program and overall process knowledge. They will work under significant supervision by Manager following verbal and/or written instructions. The Director, Manager, or Senior Product Compliance Analyst will review the Analyst’s work and assist in researching or interpreting regulations, statutes and/or reporting requirements, as appropriate.

What are the requirements needed for this position? 

  • Associates degree
  • 2 years’ experience in the insurance industry

What other skills/experience would be helpful to have? 

  • Paralegal or Insurance designation a plus
  • Strong written, drafting and editing, and grammatical skills, including accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work with ambiguity and frequently changing priorities.
  • Time management skills and the ability to effectively prioritize work to accomplish assigned duties by set deadlines.
  • Strong data entry skills
  • A Working knowledge of insurance terminology and the ability to research industry regulation.
  • Willingness to learn new things and take on-the-job training courses or external insurance courses to broaden knowledge and skillset.
  • Knowledge of SERFF and/or experience in submitting State filings
  • Ability to balance compliance with Business and Company strategies and directives.
  • Support Assurant goals: think beyond current role and think like a customer.
  • Make sound business decisions by gathering data and taking action in a decisive and timely manner.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interact with internal employees, State Regulators and external representatives.  Collaborate and form relationships to achieve Business goals and seek perspective from others to create new solutions.
  • Possess or quickly develop knowledge of assigned Company products.  Demonstrate an understanding of the role by delivering our purpose and living our brand through providing and maintaining compliant Company products.
  • Proficiency or ability to quickly develop proficiency with consumer and home warranty service contract regulation and product development.

What are the working conditions and physical requirements of this job?  

This position requires incumbents to regularly sit at a desk and operate standard office equipment such as a computer and phone.  Employee is occasionally required to stand and walk, lift, carry and/or move up to 10 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.  Must be able to talk and hear.  Required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

How much should I expect to travel? 

5% Travel may be required to attend an insurance or professional industry meeting or an inter- company meeting.

Pay Range:

$53,700.00 - $89,900.00

Any posted pay range considers a wide range of compensation factors, including candidate background, experience and work location, while also allowing for salary growth within the position.
