About the Role

We are looking for a full-time Operating Room (OR) Nurse whose primary responsibility is to assist in surgical procedures by primarily supporting the Sr. Nurse Specialist. The role delivers holistic patient care throughout the pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative phases of surgery. It collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to ensure smooth surgical operations and patient outcomes.
 

OPERATIVE PATIENT CARE 
A. Pre-operative

  • Receives patients in the pre-operative area and initiates guidelines such as “Time-out” and “Triple Check.”

  • Prepares and completes patient records such as OR checklists, consent forms, laboratory requirements, and medical clearances.

  • Prepares all documents and medical supplies necessary for patient admission, such as OR checklist, consent forms medical clearance, and laboratory requirements as ordered by the MD

  • Initiates applicable diagnostic and medical regimens. 

  • Assesses and interviews patients to prepare a care plan before surgery.


     B. Intra-operative (Scrub Nurse)

  • Prepares the sterile field table, medical supplies, instruments, and medications needed prior to surgery.

  • Assists Ophthalmologists during surgery, including gowning and gloving in sterile areas.

  • Assists the ophthalmologist in handling sterile instruments, sutures, and supplies.

  • Maintains the integrity, order, and sterility of the sterile field area throughout the surgical procedure.

  • Endorses instruments to the Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) for reprocessing aftercare.
     

      C. Intra-operative (Circulating Nurse)

  • Initiates procedures such as “Time-Out” and “Triple Check” in the whole intraoperative surgical team (Surgeon, Scrub nurse, Anesthesiologist) before starting the surgery.

  • Rechecks that the patient monitor is functioning, along with cables and oxygen cannula; follows orders of the anesthesiologist on duty.

  • Verifies if patient chart records are complete and accurate.

  • Hooks the patient to the monitor, places an oxygen nasal cannula, and secures the patient's arm.

  • Carries out intra-operative activities following required protocols and surgical procedures.

      D. Post-operative

  • Receives the patient from intra-operative and gets an endorsement from the circulating nurse.

  • Attaches the post-operative patient to the patient monitor, takes and monitors patient vital signs, and assesses patient condition post-operatively

  • Accomplishes doctor’s orders and instills post-operative medicines.

  • Completes the patient chart documentation entries accurately.

  • Prepares post-operative kit bags for take-home medicines with proper labeling and endorses post-operative instructions to the patient, patient’s relative, or companion.


       E. Medical and Patient Support Coordination

  • Coordinates with MDs, OR nurses, and CSSD staff on specific tasks required for each case.

  • Collaborates with Surgical Coordinators, Customer Relations, Patient Benefits, Medical Records, Billing, and Cashier on patient details, surgical requirements, and patient needs.
     

2. OPERATING ROOM ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT

  • Assists with correspondence, tracking and reporting, performance monitoring, presentations, supplies management, and logistics.

  • Accomplishes reports (e.g., time-out reports, medical supply inventory) required by the immediate head, such as organizing patient charts, running errands, answering phones, paging staff, and managing the patient census.
     

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have at least completed a degree in Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

  • Licensed Registered Nurse (PHRN) 

  • Preferably with 6 months to 1 year of experience in an Operating Room, ideally within an eye center

  • Preferably with Intravenous Therapy Training Certification

  • Basic Life support and Advanced Life Support Certification

  • Mastery of surgical procedures and patient assessment (pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative).

  • Familiarity with sterilization, anesthesia protocols, and pain management techniques.

  • Capability to assess and manage patient conditions throughout the surgical process.

  • Skilled in the operation, calibration, and maintenance of surgical instruments and medical equipment.

  • Able to communicate effectively and accurately.

  • Able to demonstrate basic customer service skills.

  • Able to exhibit meticulous attention to detail
