What you’ll be doing:

We are looking for an experienced Technical Program Manager to join our Robotics TPM team and support our growing Sim&Test engineering and TPM teams within the Cruise AIR department. The Sim&Test organization at Cruise is responsible for accelerating the AV development and testing by reducing reliance on road data and developing innovative simulation and testing environments.

As an L6 Technical Program Manager (TPM) within the Simulation and Test team at Cruise, you will play a critical role in driving the development, testing, and delivery of complex, large-scale systems. You will be responsible for running project timelines, resources, and scope across multiple teams, ensuring alignment among all partners, and driving projects efficiently. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership, and critical thinking to innovate and drive the team towards achieving Cruise's goals and good understanding of the simulation environments at Cruise.

Planning

  • Drive the formulation and review of department roadmaps and objectives on a quarterly and monthly cadence
  • Drive agile planning frameworks that optimize work that should be agile vs planned
  • Partner with Technical Product Managers to turn requirements and technical specs into achievable implementation roadmaps, including planning timelines and landmarks and identifying cross-team dependencies
  • Work with Engineering Managers to ensure teams take on a balanced assignment of critical initiatives, iterative improvements, and proactive engineering excellence investments. Support calculation of team capacity vs estimated workload, and ensure the team can deliver on their commitments

Execution

  • Ensure smooth execution of programs and continuously improve execution over time
  • Promote quality communication within the TPM group to efficiently execute, filter, and summarize reporting across the department to resolve, raise issues and celebrate wins.
  • Lead and improve multi-functional planning and execution processes for other TPMs to follow and clarify the escalation path for execution decisions
  • Responsible for instrumenting monitoring to measure group efficiency and effectiveness
  • Establish confidence from partner teams to continuously minimize distractions or conflicts and push groups to improve their output.

Technical

  • Use technical judgment in working with large, cross-functional engineering teams
  • Work with Technical Leads on design decisions, and contribute to the department design reviews to ensure we continue to raise our technical standards

What you have:

  • Proven experience in technical program management, especially within the AV simulation and testing domain.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to lead and mentor a diverse team of world class TPMs.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and executive leadership
  • 5+ years of technical program management experience
  • Bachelors, Masters, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, or similar technical field
  • Relentless pursuit of execution excellence, improvement of the engineering practice and 
  • Passionate about self-driving car technology and its impact on the world

Bonus Points!

  • Experience working and developing Autonomous Vehicles or advanced robotics systems, especially for their testing and simulation environments
  • Knowledge of core simulation frameworks
  • Experience improving and delivering reliable software through continuous integration, automated testing and code reviews
  • Exposure to verifying and validating safety critical software and systems

The salary range for this position is $155,000 - $228,000. Compensation will vary depending on location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. You may also be offered a bonus, long-term incentives, and benefits. These ranges are subject to change.
