Summary :

The Occupational Therapist evaluates, establishes goals, creates plans, and provides treatment programs utilizing evidence-based care and value-based practices for patients with physical, emotional, cognitive, and/or psychosocial deficits to foster patient’s return to daily activities at home, work, or in the community.

Job Description:

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Demonstrates best practice and accountability in the performance of assessment, reassessment, development, and implementation of the patient’s therapy plan of care. Consults with other disciplines as required to coordinate patient care services.

  • Provides guidance, support, and education to promote patient advocacy and enhance outcomes in the use of adaptive techniques, treatments, interventions in the activities of daily living/independent activities of daily living, strengthening, conditioning, cognition, perception, coping, and leisure skills.

  • Functions collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team or independently to effectively and efficiently provide safe and quality treatment for the desired outcome. Makes referrals to an appropriate health care practitioner if the symptoms or conditions are present that require services beyond the scope of practice of occupational therapy.

  • Delegates appropriately to occupational therapy assistants and rehabilitation aides to support patient needs while maintaining accountability for the care plan with a demonstrated understanding of the competency level of those delegated. Supports learning and teaching opportunities to further enhance the skill set of care team members.

  • Completes accurate and timely documentation of services in accordance with professional and compliance standards to best reflect the patient's status and needs, support revenue cycle, and facilitate communication for continuity of care.

  • Demonstrates responsible actions and initiatives to positively impact patient access to care, and contributes to the department’s financial performance.

  • Develops and/or implements clinical and community-based activities that improve or expand services within the healthcare system.

  • Plans for and implements therapeutic groups and/or outings that focus on improving coping skills, functional thinking skills, and psycho-social adjustment to benefit patient care.

  • Fosters clinician autonomy through individual professional development and mentorship to support the team’s success in advancing their profession.

  • Promotes successful relationships with referral sources and within the community to enhance strategic growth and gain market share.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from accredited school of occupational therapy

  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)

  • License to practice as a OT in the state of Wisconsin

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of fifty (50) pounds without assistance

  • Job classification is exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Occasional exposure to sharp objects and instruments

  • Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock

  • Occasional high noise level in work environment

  • Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents

  • Occasional contact with aggressive and or combative patients

  • Occasional exposure to heat sources such as hot water for splinting or heat gun
