The Opportunity

The Director of Biologics Operations has the primary responsibility for biologics sourcing for all Diagnostics Core Lab new product introduction projects and all in-sourcing of biologics supporting Core Lab Immunoassay and Clinical Chemistry products already on market. The Director allocates resources and manages budgets pursuant to Division directives and meets all deliverables per project plans approved via the Integrated Business Planning process. The Director must ensure timely discovery, development and manufacturing activities and ensure efficient transfer of processes and analytical test methods into the manufacturing site. Additionally, this role has global impact and proposes and executes biologics development projects for other Abbott Divisions for example Molecular Diagnostics, Diabetes Care, and Rapid Diagnostics.

What You’ll Work On

  • C​ollaborate with stakeholders across Core Diagnostics Research and New Product Development teams on specific project planning, project schedule builds and engaging in ongoing project updates, reviews, and cross-functional communication to achieve deliverables and meet milestones.
  • Cross-functional collaboration, project oversight, periodic reviews with Operations leadership and teams to prepare for transfer of processes and analytical test methods into manufacturing sites.
  • Provide leadership oversight, guidance and technical expertise to biologics discovery projects and activities occurring within sub-teams; provide feedback and direction to project priorities or reprioritize based on organizational needs.
  • Provide leadership guidance and oversight to continuous improvement activities and projects that drive process efficiencies in the areas of discovery, propagation, purification and analytical chemistry technologies and methods.
  • Collaborate with R&D and Operations leaders from other Abbott divisions to define project plans build/review timelines and ensure proper execution of project work and the delivery expected outcomes per project plans. Provides leadership oversight and reporting through team meetings and regular 1:1s with cross-divisional leaders and DVPs.
  • Responsible for the development of the business strategy for the Biologics discovery organization that algins to the Core Diagnostics business strategy.
  • Responsible for the budget/planning process for the Biologics discovery organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or a related field.
  • Master’s degree required.
  • Minimum 10 years of related experience including extensive experience in biologics discovery, development, protein engineering.
  • Must possess strong analytical skills, business acumen, and leadership and managerial skills.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a people manager with direct reports.
  • Experience leading large-scale projects. 
  • Background in the diagnostics industry within Operations or directly related to biologics design transfer into a manufacturing site.
  • Knowledge of Design Control related to biologics development.
  • Strong understanding of FDA/ICH/ISO guidelines used to establish internal requirements and technical aspects of product development in regulated industry.

The base pay for this position is

$143,300.00 – $286,700.00

In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
