Scope of work

Responsibility for coordinating the services provided by multiple disciplines within and outside the health system. Exercises independent judgment in the assessment, diagnosis initiation of selected protocols/procedures. Provides educational support for patients/significant others, health team members and the community and coordinates evaluation practices to measure outcomes of programs.

The Process Improvement Nurse is responsible to:

  • Identify, develop, implement, and evaluate opportunities for clinical quality improvement
  • Interact with clinical team through morning hand-off / rounding, direct face –to-face contact, and trauma program meeting to capture clinical data
  • Work collaboratively with the Trauma Medical Director (TMD), Trauma Program Manager (TPM), and other PI RNs to identify cases, prep charts, develop PI action plans
  • Collecting, analyzing, and reporting clinical data elements for MTQIP, eligible cases as required for participation in the MTQIP, a Blue Cross Blue Shield/ Blue Care Network of Michigan – funded Collaborative Quality Initiative (CQI)
  • Responsible to work collaboratively with the trauma program registry staff, clinical staff, and the trauma program manager to collect and submit reliable data to MTQIP in a timely manner
  • Serve in a leadership role with trauma nursing education and resident orientation
  • Participate in the ACS level I verification site visit
  • Participate in regional, state, and national trauma educational events / conferences
  • Participate in trauma research projects as requested

The RN in this role will work collaboratively with the Butterworth trauma team to provide leadership in process improvement to guide clinical and operational improvement for best practice trauma care.

This is a hybrid role, normally 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. However, every other week the day begins at 7:00 a.m. with an expectation of 2 days on site.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors in nursing Required.
  • Masters in nursing Preferred.
  • 2 – 5  years of Trauma care experience (inpatient or ED) Required.
  • MI Registered Nurse (RN) Required.
