What you'll do...
The Senior Software Engineer will lead the design, development, and delivery of scalable software solutions aligned with business objectives. This role involves analyzing requirements, creating detailed designs, and producing maintainable code while ensuring quality and security standards. The position requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to address technical challenges, implement continuous integration and deployment practices, and support ongoing application performance and maintenance.
About the Team:
BuyBox is a critical service within Walmart's e-commerce platform, responsible for selecting the best offer for an item. The BuyBox team is responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimizing the complex ecosystem of micro services, which selects the best offer for Walmart customers using machine learning and business rules. They ensure integration with upstream and downstream systems, monitor performance, and address ranking issues to maximize customer and business value. This collaborative environment emphasizes technical expertise, continuous development, and innovation to enhance operational excellence and customer satisfaction across the supply chain.
What You'll Do:
• Analyze and classify requirements to align with business and technical objectives, ensuring comprehensive solution scoping.
• Design scalable software components by evaluating trade-offs and converting high-level designs into detailed functional logic.
• Develop maintainable, testable code adhering to coding standards and security policies across multiple platforms and languages.
• Create and execute test cases to identify defects, perform root cause analysis, and support continuous integration and delivery processes.
• Monitor application performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement corrective and adaptive maintenance activities.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to deliver solutions that meet business needs while driving continuous improvement and innovation.
• Provide technical leadership for an agile development team of 6-8 engineers responsible for features and applications used in multiple International Stores.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Product Management, Market Operations) to gather requirements, create software design specifications and high-level estimates.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and improve scalable, secure, and high- performance APIs, microservices, and components using technologies like Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, SQL Database, Cache, etc.
• Perform design and code reviews, suggest improvements to ensure the highest level of quality and maintainability.
• Oversee development lifecycles, analyze application logs, maintenance activity data, performance data, and provide analysis; evaluate change requests to identify those which are valid and feasible.
• Track, analyze, and provide guidance to the team for resolving critical tech debts.
• Provide guidance in troubleshooting technical issues, participate in root cause analysis, and ensure prevention of future incidents.
• Document code, technical specifications, and instructional materials for team members and stakeholders.
What You'll Bring:
• 5+ years of practical experience as a backend developer.
• Strong proficiency in object-oriented programming and coding standards across languages such as Java, JavaScript, and Python.
• Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines and automation scripting.
• Ability to analyze and translate business requirements into detailed technical designs and user stories.
• Skilled in debugging, defect management, and root cause analysis to ensure high-quality deliverables.
• Knowledge of telemetry implementation, security policies, and software development lifecycle (SDLC) best practices.
• Demonstrated capability in iterative development, testing strategies, and code review processes.
• Strong hands-on development skills to prototype technical solutions.
• Good problem-solving attitude and analytical skills.
• Ability to balance the long-term "big picture" and short-term implications of design decisions.
• Advanced Java and Python development experience with building highly scalable applications.
• Proficiency in Azure and GCP.

The annual salary range for this position is $117,000.00 - $234,000.00
Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
