What We Offer 

 

This internship is an on-call position, which means it is a part-time, hourly role. The City and County of Denver offers a competitive pay rate to commensurate with education, with the pay range for this position between $20.22 - $22.78/hour. This position is eligible to enroll in the City and County of Denver’s 457b retirement plan. This position is not eligible for other additional benefits. On-call positions may have routine or variable work schedules. 
 
Location Flexibility 

 

The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model with a required 3 days in office. Employees work where needed to support business at Denver International Airport (DEN). We do not offer housing or relocation assistance for this position. Employees must work within the state of Colorado. 

 
Internship Duration and Hours:  

 

This is a 1-year internship from Monday, June 1, 2026 - Friday, May 15, 2027, hours typically vary between 20-39 hours a week during the summer and 15-30 hours a week during school semesters. The DENtern’s work schedule will be flexible to accommodate their current academic commitments. Hours not exceeding 39 hours a week or 1,559 hours over a year.

Through the DEN Intern (nicknamed “DENtern”) Program, students gain real world experience in aviation and workforce development while building professional skills. DENterns participate in a cohort-based model that emphasizes networking, collaboration, and professional growth, attending all scheduled professional development sessions, tours, and engaging in impactful projects across the airport.  
 
DEN’s Center of Equity and Excellence in Aviation (CEEA) is actively seeking a Program Management intern to contribute to their division. As part of DEN's Strategic Plan, Vision 100, which envisions reaching 100 million annual passengers, CEEA plays a pivotal role in transforming the aviation industry. 

 

CEEA is a groundbreaking initiative designed to engage, educate, empower, and motivate students, employees, and small businesses. This unique endeavor is committed to inclusivity, with a focused effort on supporting under-represented communities. The CEEA team focuses on the transformative journey of shaping the future of aviation. 

 

As a DENtern, you will work primarily with the Youth Career Pathways team, with meaningful opportunities to collaborate with the Employee Career Pathways and Research & Innovation teams. This blended experience will give you a wellrounded perspective on how we support workforce development across the airport. Projects may include, but are not limited to: 
 

  • Project #1: DENtern Program Support 

  • Serve as lead aide in organizing DENtern tours, professional development, presentations, events, communications, and DENtern recruitment 

  • Facilitate DENtern mini-introductions to DEN executive leadership 

  • Create opportunities for DENterns to bond and build friendships and help launch an alumni network 

  • Project #2: Youth Engagement Programs 

  • Support the event planning and execution of impactful initiatives like DEN Academy, Tours, Project Takeoff, Aviation Career-Ready Workshops, and Aviation Learning Day 

  • Co-create interactive activities that make workshops and events exciting, memorable, and relevant for youth participants 

  • Ensure every student leaves with a positive, inspiring experience that sparks interest in aviation careers. 

  • Project #3: CEEA Sock Design Challenge Lead 

  • Coordinate the annual student CEEA Sock Design Challenge by managing submissions, coordinating the selection process and vendor communication, overseeing purchase logistics, advertising, and developing next year’s theme 

  • Project #4: Employee Professional Development Logistics 

  • Support end to end logistics for employee professional development programs including tasks such as confirming room reservations, catering coordination, supply preparation, day-of event setup/breakdown, and expense documentation 

  • Project #5: Overall Engagement Outreach 

  • Represent the team at youth, employee, and community events by sharing opportunities and engaging with participants 

  • Contribute to special projects like refreshing presentations, designing new resources, and crafting communications that highlight programming 

  • Project #6: Aviation Megatrend Research 

  • Collaborate with a team of fellow DENterns to conduct discovery research on a key aviation megatrend. This includes gathering data, interviewing industry experts, and analyzing findings. At the end of the summer, your team will present insights to DEN’s executive leadership to help shape strategic innovation and prepare the airport for the future.

Minimum Qualifications 

 

  • Education Requirement: Current enrollment in an accredited college program leading to a certificate, licensure, associates, bachelor’s, or higher degree in, or a recent graduate (completed specified program within 1 year of completion). 

  • Experience: None 

  • Education and Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted.
