At People.AI, we help, support and empower the Walmart’s HR function with AI and GenAI solutions to improve productivity, harnessing the opportunities for growth, focusing on well-being and cultivating cultures of belonging for all Walmart's associates. People.AI is a horizontal data science team supporting People Tech and Services across a multitude of use-cases and business domains. 

 

People.AI strategy aims to empower the people business and associates by converting Walmart’s people data, business processes, knowledge and HR subject matter expertise into different productivity experiences like knowledge search and Q&A, data analytics and insights, actions and recommendations etc. People.AI is building a GenAI powered platform named My Assistant to enable all Walmart associates with multitude of integrated services and experiences to help increase productivity and boost associate satisfaction. 

 

People.AI is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Distinguished Software Engineer directly reporting to the Director of Engineering and GenAI. In this individual contributor role, you are expected to be hands-on coding 60% of your time. Also, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the technical direction of our products and systems. with responsibilities including leading the creation and maintenance of technical architecture, aligning it with business goals and scalability requirements, and architecting complex software systems to ensure performance, security, and scalability needs are met. Additionally, the role involves providing hands-on technical guidance and mentorship to software engineers, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, and establishing and enforcing coding standards through thorough code reviews

The EBS People Technology organization supports the successful deployment and adoption of new People technology across the enterprise. People Technology is one of the major segments of Walmart Global Tech’s Enterprise Business Services, which is invested in building a compact, robust organization that includes service operations and technology solutions for Finance, People, and the Associate Digital Experience. 

 

Enterprise Business Services (EBS) @ IDC Bangalore and Chennai in India are focused on data driven, highly optimized products and implementations in the areas of Finance, Procurement, Human Resources and Retail business functions for multiple Walmart markets with open stack technologies and other ERP tools. 

 

What you'll do: 

This is a vital role with significant growth prospects. You will have work to do from day one and you will be counted on to create opportunities that align with the overall organization goals. Some of this role’s key responsibilities include, but not limited to:  

 

  • Architectural Leadership: Lead the creation and maintenance of our front-end and back-end technical architecture, aligning it with business goals and scalability requirements.   

  • System Design and Scalability: Architect complex software systems, ensuring performance, security, and scalability needs are met.   

  • Technical Guidance and Mentoring: Provide hands-on technical guidance and mentorship to software engineers, fostering a culture of learning and innovation.   

  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Product Management, UX/UI, Quality Assurance, DevOps, and engineering.   

  • Code Review and Standards: Establish and enforce coding standards, design patterns, and development best practices through thorough code reviews.   

  • Innovation and Research: Stay at the forefront of technological advancements, conducting research to identify emerging tools and methodologies.   

  • Project Management and Delivery: Collaborate with project managers to define project scopes, milestones, and deliverables, ensuring alignment with architectural goals.   

  • Collaborative Communication: Communicate complex technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, promoting a culture of open communication and collaboration.  

 

What you’ll bring: 

  • 15+ years' experience in design, development and maintenance of highly performant, scalable, secure and user-centric products and platforms 

  • Experience in the design, development, and delivery of distributed machine learning systems in production for large user base.   

  • Extensive hands-on experience in python development and other languages to build end-to-end Machine Learning applications. 

  • Experience in mobile and web development with JavaScript technologies (React, and Node.js, etc.).  

  • Experience in automated testing of mobile and web applications  

  • A clear vision for front-end and full-stack architecture design and effective communication skills to articulate that to all levels of stakeholders.   

  • Experience in releasing mobile apps to the public via App Store and Google Store.   

  • Excellent decision-making skills with the ability to balance conflicting interests in a complex and fast-paced environment.   

  • Understanding of distributed technologies, public cloud technologies, scalable platforms, full stack development, Generative AI, and Operational Excellence.   

  • Experience working with geographically distributed teams.   

  • Business acumen; combining technical vision with business insights.
