What You’ll Do
The Senior Claims Adjuster – Habitational/Litigation Specialist is responsible for managing complex, high-value claims that have escalated to litigation or have the potential to do so. This position involves overseeing and directing the legal aspects of claims, including working closely with defense counsel, legal teams, and internal stakeholders to achieve favorable outcomes. The Senior Claims Adjuster ensures claims are properly investigated, evaluated, and settled in accordance with company guidelines, state regulations, and legal requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Litigation Management:
- Manage the litigation process for complex and high-exposure claims, including coordinating with external counsel, tracking litigation progress, and ensuring effective strategy implementation. Ability to attend depositions, mediations, and court hearing to represent the company’s best interests.
- Claims Investigation & Evaluation:
- Conduct thorough investigations into claims, including obtaining statements, gathering evidence, reviewing police reports, reviewing medical records, collaborating with experts to assess liability and damages. Review policy documents to determine coverage.
- Legal Coordination:
- Work directly with defense attorneys, outside counsel, and internal legal teams to develop case strategies and manage all aspects of legal correspondence, filings, and settlements.
- Settlement Negotiations:
- Lead settlement negotiations, including preparing settlement offers, determining appropriate reserves, and managing the overall settlement process.
- Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with company policies, legal standards, and industry regulations.
- Case Documentation:
- Maintain comprehensive documentation for all claims in litigation, including case files,
court documents, and communication with legal parties.
- Claims Reporting & Analysis:
- Provide detailed reporting on the status of claims and litigation cases, reserve levels, and
financial implications to stakeholders
- Mentoring & Leadership:
- Provide guidance and mentorship to other claims adjusters, sharing expertise in managing
litigation-related claims and promoting best practices.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Stay updated on industry trends, legal developments, and best practices to enhance the
claims handling process. Suggest improvements to internal processes and systems.
Basic Requirements
- Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Business, or a related field (preferred).
- 8+ years of experience in claims adjusting, with at least 3 years focused on litigation
claims management.
- 5+ years of habitational experience.
- Have adjuster license in the states assigned or able to obtain.
- Prior experience working directly with attorneys, legal teams, and external counsel.
- Knowledge of state and federal insurance regulations, as well as litigation procedures.

Certifications (Preferred but not Required):
- Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU).
- Associate in Claims (AIC) or other relevant professional certifications.
- Juris Doctor (JD) or paralegal certification is a plus, but not mandatory.
