Position Summary

Pillsbury is seeking a 2025 LLM or JD candidate (or recent graduate) to join the Hong Kong Litigation Group.  This is an off-track Attorney position with the potential to convert to an on-track position in the future if the candidate is successful on our platform. Although such promotion is not guaranteed and depends on individual performance, in recent years, multiple successful off-track Attorneys focusing on US-China litigation have been promoted to Associate positions.

Pillsbury has one of the highest-profile and most successful litigation practices focusing on international US-China litigations and arbitrations. Recent judgments and victories include a half-billion US dollar judgment and two other judgments over $100 million. Cases include pursuing fraudsters and stolen assets, contract litigations, and much more. You will work closely with team members in Hong Kong, mainland China, and throughout the United States and possibly other foreign offices.

This position will be based in our Hong Kong office and the initial title will be Legal Manager, contingent upon successful registration as a Registered Foreign Lawyer with the Law Society of Hong Kong (to be coordinated by Pillsbury). Upon registration, the title will be updated to Attorney.

Qualifications

Candidate must either have or be pursuing a JD or an LLM, graduating in 2025, planning to take a US Bar Exam, and willing to become qualified as a solicitor in Hong Kong at a future date. Candidates must be bilingual and fluent in English and Mandarin (oral and written).  Those with strong Cantonese language skills, previous US or Chinese law firm experience, especially in international litigation, IPOs, and/or regulatory work, are preferred.

The successful candidate must have excellent undergraduate academic credentials preferably from a top university in China or Hong Kong, excellent communication and interpersonal skills; must have superior oral advocacy and oral presentation, research and writing, analytical, organizational and time management skills; and must have excellent judgment and decision-making skills.

Location

Candidate may reside in Hong Kong or within surrounding communities located in China.

Compensation

The proposed pay range for this position is $50k-$60K (HKD390,000 – HKD470,000; RMB360,000 – RMB430,000). We anticipate the position will start after the candidate takes a US Bar Exam and returns to Hong Kong/China.
