Manufacturing Engineering Manager 1 – Deployables

An organization within Northrop Grumman’s Payload and Ground Systems (PGS) division, Mission Enabling Products is a leading designer, producer, and supplier of spacecraft components that power and enable satellites of all classes. Products include spacecraft panels, bus structures, precision optical structures, deployable structural systems and mechanisms, solar arrays, and antenna reflectors. Our products are on virtually every U.S. satellite built in the last 20 years.

Northrop Grumman's Mission Enabling Products organization in Goleta, CA is seeking a Manufacturing Engineering Manager 1 in the Deployables operating unit.

Overview

Reporting to the Deployables Manufacturing Engineering Manager 3, the Manufacturing Engineering Manager 1 will coordinate manufacturing engineering support resources with projects that support key business initiatives. Specifically, the Manufacturing Engineering Manager 1 will be responsible for daily production and process development. The successful candidate may occasionally be required to travel to the Oxnard location to support business needs.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Accountable to Operations in support of manufacturing safety, quality, delivery, employee, and cost

(SQDEC) expectations of internal and external customers across assigned programs.

  • Support and drive continuous improvements to support year-over-year SQDEC goals
  • Accountable to Operations in support of manufacturing Safety, Quality, Delivery, Employee and Cost
  • Collaborate with peers and peer organizations to achieve product and site business goals
  • Develop Talent through performance management focusing on individual and team goal setting
  • Manage staffing forecast and provide input for hiring decisions and/or transfer of employees to team
  • Develop robust training process for new employees and determine the best approach for evaluating the effectiveness of the training.
  • Support our organization’s digital transformation initiative with increased usage of our Manufacturing Execution System on all programs.
  • Lead the team to start managing Manufacturing Bill of Materials for all programs.
  • Maintain department training requirements and deploy resources as needed
  • Ensure that equipment and machinery are maintained in accordance with preventative maintenance schedules for assigned areas
  • Drive product cost reduction through process improvements and deployment of new technologies
  • Identify systems and process goals (KPI’s) to ensure that work cells and equipment meet operational performance
  • Responsible for the review, feedback, and drive to release, of work instructions, milestone plans, material, and manufacturing flows
  • Encourage and develop standard work, procedures, and integrate industry-standard best practices for Continuous Improvement and LEAN implementation

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of relevant manufacturing experience; OR a Masters' degree with 3 years of relevant manufacturing experience. An additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree
  • Experience leading or managing people
  • Ability to solve problems and drive continuous improvements
  • Clear, concise oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient Microsoft Office applications
  • Occasional domestic travel up to 10%
  • U.S. Citizenship is a requirement for employment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline
  • Experience leading or managing engineers
  • Experience developing manufacturing processes for Spacecraft Deployable mechanisms
  • Experience working in a commercial aerospace production environment
  • Experience in leadership of teams in resolving complex technical issues
  • Lean Sigma Green Belt or equivalent

Salary Range: $104,600.00 - $156,800.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
