The Opportunity:

The ERAU Environmental, Health & Safety Department seeks a skilled Industrial Hygienist that supports academic departments and staff departments. The Industrial Hygienist will contribute to the safety and well-being of our staff, faculty, students, and visitors.

This position will conduct comprehensive industrial hygiene assessments to identify and evaluate workplace hazards.  The incumbent will be responsible for developing and managing the Chemical Hygiene Plan for the University's Daytona Beach and Worldwide campuses and act as the Chemical Hygiene Officer (CHO) for the same. This position will also provide University guidance and oversight to the Prescott Campus CHO in their development of Prescott's Chemical Hygiene Plan. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and implement effective control measures to mitigate exposure to occupational health risks
  • Perform air quality monitoring, noise assessments, and ergonomic evaluations
  • Collaborate with various departments to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices; 4)  provide expertise and guidance on the selection and use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Analyze and interpret data to prepare detailed reports on industrial hygiene findings and recommendations
  • Conduct training sessions to educate employees on industrial hygiene principles and practices
  • Work with the EH&S team to conduct safety audits/risk assessments
  • Provide on-demand regulatory guidance to management and departments
  • Identify controls to mitigate risk identified in risk assessments and assist with incident analysis and hazard investigation and follow-up.

Additional duties will include:

  • Oversee the maintenance and calibration of EH&S equipment and meters
  • Respond to, and investigate, environmental health and safety emergencies
  • Develop and conduct training on health and safety related topics
  • Prepare reports and represent the University at local, regional, and national conferences and continuing education classes
  • Represent EH&S on a variety of departmental and/or University committees
  • Assist the Environmental Specialist with hazardous waste pickups as needed.

This position will travel to multiple ERAU locations to identify hazards and collect appropriate samples or measurements and provide recommendations based on the findings.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Safety, Public Health, or Environmental Science.

3-5 Years of experience in industrial hygiene or relevant professional safety experience.

Ability to obtain Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification through the Board for Global EHS Credentialing (BGC) within one year of hire. Ability to obtain Certified Chemical Hygiene Officer (CCHO) certification through the National Registry of Certified Chemists within one year of hire.

  • •Ability to develop, implement, and enforce safety programs and protocols.
  • •Ability to lead and train staff and students.
  • •Knowledge of the fundamentals of chemistry, mathematics, physics, and engineering.
  • •Knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations, protocols, and/or procedures.
  • •Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports and other pertinent material.
  • •Ability to operate, test, and repair monitoring, sampling equipment, analytical equipment and other instruments.
  • •Ability to investigate and analyze information and draw conclusions.
  • •Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel.
  • •Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • •Ability to design and present informational programs and presentations, based on assessed needs.
  • •Assessment and referral skills.

Preferred but not required: Professional Engineer, Certified Safety Professional, Certified Hazardous Materials Manager, Laser Safety Officer, Radiation Safety Officer.
