About the Position
Alice L. Walton School of Medicine (AWSOM) is seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to join our team as the Director of Student Life and Development. In this key leadership role, the director will have primary responsibility for student life and wellness-related programming to support our whole health mission, including physical, behavioral, and spiritual wellness.
Major Responsibilities/Essential Functions Specific to the Position:
- Responsible for planning and organizing student milestone events including new student orientation, white coat ceremony, match day, and graduation.
- Organize workshops, seminars and activities promoting holistic health and lifestyle choices.
- Organize and oversee student organizations, including student government, clubs, special interest groups, and student-led committees.
- Establish and oversee peer mentoring and support groups to foster a supportive community among students. Train and supervise student leaders in peer support roles.
- Maintain up-to-date information on available wellness resources, both on and off-campus.
- Create programming and activities designed to de-stress students during peak examination period.
- Collaborate with faculty to create co-curricular and extra-curricular activities to reinforce the whole health curriculum.
- Supervise the wellness coaching program, including making student assignments. Meet with coaches regularly to identify student wellness concerns.
- Collaborate with the director of outreach to identify service learning and community service opportunities. Share volunteering opportunities with students.
- Represent student affairs as the disability accommodations liaison, responding to student questions and initial review of applications.
- Manage the student affairs online calendar and create new content as needed for the student life section of the website.
- Responsible for student life budgets, including approving student organizational expenses.
- Assess the effectiveness of student life and wellness-related programming and recommend improvements.
Required
- Bachelor's degree
- Three years of progressive experience in a student affairs office within higher education
Preferred
- Master’s degree in higher education, counseling, or a related field
- Prior work experience in a School of Medicine
