The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The hiring salary range for this position is $25.30- $31.63/hour. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

Location

In this position you can expect to work on site at the assigned Denver Recreation Center. This is a full-time position with a schedule that may including mornings, evenings, and weekends, dependent on operating hours and business needs.

Although we will consider your preferred location, this position may be assigned to various Denver Recreation Center facilities as required by organizational needs. The locations where we are currently hiring for are listed below:

About Us and What You’ll Do

As stewards of Denver’s legacy park system, the City and County of Denver’s Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) is committed to delivering exceptional customer service and improving the health of our residents and environment. Through innovative programs and the creation of safe, beautiful, and sustainable spaces, DPR manages a dynamic system of 30 recreation centers and nearly 20,000 acres of urban and mountain parkland, including off-street trails, parkways, and natural areas. This work is made possible by a dedicated team of professionals who design, promote, and preserve these world-class programs and spaces.

We’re seeking a Recreation Center Coordinators at Carla Madison, Central Park, and Athmar Recreation Centers. Please click on the links to view more information about each recreation center.

Recreation Center Coordinators function as program leaders, planners, and critical support staff members at recreation centers throughout the city. The Recreation Center Coordinator will focus on all areas of facility operations including front desk management, and customer service, collaboration with core program areas, coordination of facility room rentals, scheduling and implementation of community outreach plans.

Specifically, as a Recreation Center Coordinator you will:

  • Ensure a safe and enjoyable center experience for all guests and team members
  • Oversee, coach, and support center staff, including front desk operations
  • Conduct operational duties including opening and closing of the facility, submitting maintenance work orders, addressing guest concerns, cash handling, bank deposits, and general facility auditing
  • Participate in community outreach events and serve as center ambassador to the community
  • Collaborate with Recreation Program Coordinators to evaluate and examine equity in core programming, develop and implement new and innovative programs for the community
  • Coach, facilitate, and coordinate seasonal programming and activities
  • Participate in part-time staff recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and training.
  • Coach and support part-time staff to meet job expectations.
  • Assist the Supervisor with various administrative tasks and projects as assigned

What You’ll Bring

We are seeking enthusiastic and experienced recreation professionals with the knowledge and drive to succeed in Denver’s diverse communities. We are looking for coordinators who are adaptable and thrive with change, willing to step up to execute programming continuity successfully wherever needed and can bring to the team an informed sense of cultural competence (i.e., awareness and understanding of the needs of our customers and community, acknowledging differences in culture, age, and background).

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:

  • Experience working with adults, youth, and teens from diverse backgrounds
  • Experience with youth sports programming and coaching
  • Experience with a recreation registration system (ActiveNet preferred)
  • Flexibility in scheduling and the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Experience hiring, training, and developing staff
  • Customer service experience and skill managing various customer interactions
  • Experience with community engagement and outreach
  • Experience in recreation disciplines, including but not limited to fitness, youth sports, active older adult programming, and/or arts and culture

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET, or TASC Certificate
  • Experience Requirement: Five (5) years of experience working in recreation, education or a closely related field
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements
  • Licensure: Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application. Requires certification in CPR/First Aid within 6 months of probation. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment
