As an RN in the Pediatric Operating Room, you will deliver professional nursing care to patients 6-months old and up, undergoing surgical and other invasive procedures. Most cases have a high turnaround time and are ENT and GI-related. This role requires specialized clinical expertise to support a wide range of pediatric conditions, working closely with a highly skilled team dedicated to safe, high-quality surgical care in the operative setting. This caregiver must also be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, as you will circulate, scrub and float.
Our caregivers are specially trained and certified to meet the unique needs of pediatric patients, providing compassionate, family-centered care throughout the surgical experience. Caregivers who do not have any previous OR experience will complete a full OR orientation to further their knowledge in this area. A caregiver in this position works days from 7:00AM – 3:30PM or 9:00AM – 5:30PM, with on-call requirements.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Provide nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic or therapeutic services to hospitalized patients in various healthcare settings.
Assess patients, complete nursing assessments, document findings in patient records and notify physicians of abnormal findings.
Perform telephone triage and call rotations.
Perform nursing procedures and administer treatments and medications.
Establish care plans in collaboration with patients, families and the health care team.
Coordinate ongoing care, identify discharge needs and facilitate discharge planning.
Evaluate, initiate and maintain standards of care.
Educate patients and families.
Participate in education, research and performance improvement activities.
Assist in the preparation of department-specific education for patients and colleagues.
Maintain core competency in nursing (CPR, skills labs).
Cover other nursing roles in the department.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (Diploma, ADN or BSN program)
Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
*In areas performing moderate sedation procedures, must have Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within six months of employment
One year of recent experience as an RN
OR Licensed RN with at least two years of LPN experience within the same Cleveland Clinic procedural department may substitute for required RN experience
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)
