Position Overview

The Event Operations Intern will focus on supporting the development team with creating and executing event plans and supporting stakeholder engagement through events. The Event Operations Intern will specifically be involved in the design, development, execution, and follow-up of City Year Miami’s two signature events, MLK Day of Service and the Red Jacket Mentorship Awards Luncheon.

Throughout their six-month internship, the Development Event Operations Intern will work approximately 6-10 hours per week. They will have flexibility in deciding their work schedule. The Event Operations Intern will be required to meet twice a week for one hour with the development team and event committees to support the development and execution of signature events. Additionally, the Development Event Operations will meet one hour every week with the Senior Manager of Individual Giving, and the Managing Director of People and Operations team for check-ins to monitor progress, ensure success, and provide coaching time and hours are very flexible. A laptop will be provided for the duration of the internship.

Job Description

Role Duties:

  • Support the planning, design, set-up, execution, and follow-up phases for City Year Miami’s MLK Day of Service, including maximizing community partner activation and assisting with registration.
  • Collaborate on all aspects of event logistics, including venue selection, vendor coordination, catering, audiovisual needs, live experience, and event flow for City Year Miami’s Red Jacket Mentorship Luncheon.
  • Assist with coordinating event schedules, timelines, run-of-show plans, and formats of signature events to ensure smooth and successful event execution.
    Provide social media content suggestions and ideas related to City Year Miami’s signature events to maximize digital reach before, during, and after events.
  • Partner with City Year Miami departments and staff through stakeholder engagement, events participation, and cross-departmental committees as needed to ensure site-wide goals are met.
  • Support the execution of site-wide goals through collaboration with program staff and leadership. Collaborate cross-functionally to make shared decisions, set strategies, and develop work outputs.
  • Understand the overall mission and culture of City Year, including the brand, the constituency, the services provided, and all other aspects of the organization.
  • Additional support on initiatives from the People & Operations Department as needed.

City Year Miami Events:

  • MLK Day of Service Prep Days: January 11 or 18, 2025 (8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.)
  • MLK Day of Service: January 20, 2025 (7:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.)
  • Red Jacket Mentorship Awards Luncheon: Date TBD, March or April 2025 (10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.)

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or currently working towards a master’s degree in business management, Leadership, social media, business, or a related field.
  • Successful completion of introductory courses in Business, or equivalent
  • Proficient with the use of Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook)
  • Previous experience with the use of Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, and social media management tools a plus
