Pay Range:

$24.10 - $36.15

Where You Will Work

 Team Phoenix empowers women to become proactive in their own health care and survivorship, move beyond the title of cancer survivor, and redefine themselves as athletes through introduction to the joys of exercise and living well.

Team Phoenix is an innovative 14-week fitness and education program in which a leadership team of multidisciplinary clinicians, triathlon coaches and volunteers encourage and assist cancer survivors to regain health and wellness after cancer treatment by training for a sprint-distance triathlon. 

 We’re Looking For: 

Education/Experience Required:

  • High School education or equivalent with 1 year of experience in fitness class instruction.
  • Must display ability to motivate - members in Fitness classes.
  • Requires good communication skills.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Good skills in coordination, rhythm and timing.
  • Physical strength and flexibility is needed.
    CPR certified.
  • ACE, ACSM, AFAA, AEA certification(minimum of 1) - WSI or equivalent water rescue preferred or obtained in first year.

What You’ll Do: 

Schedule: Must be available March 15 – July 28th Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6pm-8:30pm (also Saturday July 10th 6am-12pm and Sunday July 25th 6am – 2pm) 

Travel to training sites required (all within 25 miles of downtown Milwaukee except the triathlon venue Ottawa Lake State Park in Southern Kettle Moraine)

In person group training 5 hours per week, plus 1-2 hours per week of remote work communication/coordination 

 As a key member of the ambulatory care team, you will:  

Core Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe, effective, and professional group exercise classes.
  • Maintain a positive, enthusiastic presence with members and staff.
  • Set up equipment and space properly and operate audio equipment correctly.
  • Handle emergencies appropriately and follow all policies and agreements.
  • Minimize class substitutions and help grow class participation.

Member Support & Knowledge

  • Answer fitness questions or find accurate information.
  • Stay current on new equipment, class formats, and training methods.
  • Promote Wellness Center programs, services, and events.
  • Serve as a visible, helpful resource and guide members to additional services.

Operations & Recordkeeping

  • Maintain and report damage/loss of equipment.
  • Track attendance, class statistics, and work hours accurately.
  • Follow proper timekeeping procedures before and after classes.

Professional Development & Compliance

  • Attend required meetings and trainings.
  • Complete HR and safety requirements on time.
  • Stay informed on communications and schedules.
  • Maintain HIPAA confidentiality and uphold organizational standards of excellence.

  About This Location: 


 The biggest challenge in this role is being able to coordinate the social, emotional and physical needs of a wide variety of athletes/volunteers while assuring that athletes have safe and successful training and triathlon experience.  

Team Phoenix complements efforts to better understand how exercise improves survival after cancer. Our researchers collaborate with higher education institutions on the effects of moderate exercise on aerobic capacity, strength and psychological well-being after cancer treatment. With the help of cancer survivors, we’re making steady progress in advancing all aspects of cancer care, including diagnosis, treatment and survival.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions 

  • The job routinely demands a great deal of cardiorespiratory and muscular endurance. Occasionally, the group exercise classroom furnishings may require rearranging to provide adequate space for instruction.
  • Occasionally, may be asked to provide instruction at an affiliated site or business within our hospital service area.
  • Occasionally, may be called upon to provide instruction at an unscheduled time in the absence of another instructor.
    If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact, the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance.
  • For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available.
  • Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
