The British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is currently seeking a Business Solutions Analyst co-op student/intern for the Summer and Fall 2025 work term (May – December) to learn our daily operations, provide high-level data analytics and insights, and participate in a variety of projects.

The Business Solutions co-op/intern will work within our Investment Operations (IO) department. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to learn the daily operations, perform reporting and analytics, problem solve, and contribute to high impact corporate projects. This is a great opportunity for you to learn and develop your skills within a fast-moving team, as well as a variety of continuous improvement projects.
The Business Solutions team works with internal partners to design end-to-end business solutions on new products and strategic initiatives, provides lead support to Investment Operations’ SimCorp Dimension (SCD) business users, and oversees BCI’s relationships related to SWIFT messaging and custody.
The co-op student/intern will work under the Senior Analyst, Business Solutions in collaboration with the rest of the team and other stakeholders.
Develop conceptual and practical knowledge of Investment Operations functions within an asset management corporation
Gain in-depth knowledge of cash flow and settlement cycles across various back-office functions, asset classes, and markets
Process transactions for different asset classes and respond to email inquiries
Organize, write, and map out procedures, workflows, and processes in an effective manner to facilitate easy navigation of information for others
Reconcile and monitor transactions, ensuring accuracy and consistency between internal records and the custodian, Northern Trust, while utilizing the Broadridge application to send and cancel transfers, while maintaining effective communication and collaboration
Troubleshoot and enhance existing workflows/workbooks used in daily operations
Contribute to the investment decision process by delivering reliable cash-related data to portfolio managers and other functions
Collaborate with various departments, including Trade Management and Accounting, to resolve cash breaks
Understand system-to-system integrations and data flow of transactions, and identify opportunities for improvement
Develop knowledge of relevant internal systems within the department and BCI
Prepare and develop monthly Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reports
Seize opportunities to effect change and introduce new ideas
Complete other assigned projects, tasks, and duties
Passionate about investment management and driven to learn about financial markets and the investment lifecycle process
Proficient in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel with formulas and macros) and quick to learn new technology
Highly organized and efficient, able to manage time wisely and prioritize multiple tasks
Strong team player and communicator, works well independently, proactively shares information, and responds promptly and effectively to communications
Excellent independent research skills and attention to detail
Willingness to learn and collaborate in a team environment
Problem-solving abilities and delivering accurate information under pressure
Capable of communicating technical concepts to diverse audiences
Demonstrated interest in asset management and improving operations processes
Basic understanding of financial instruments, asset classes, system integrations, project management frameworks, and data governance
Experience or training in MS Excel, VBA, SQL and/or Power BI
Fundamental knowledge of business and investment-related disciplines
Clear and concise communication skills, both orally and in writing
Ability to meet deadlines with accuracy
Interest in investment management, dedication to hard work, and commitment to high ethical standards

Competitive pay Mid / Back Office: $2,260.00 gross bi-weekly or $2,090.00 gross bi-weekly + vacation leave paid based on 6% of salary ($2,260.00 gross biweekly for those with (or working towards) a graduate degree or joining the Investment Strategy & Risk department and $2,090.00 gross biweekly for those with (or working towards) an undergraduate degree, diploma, or certificate)
Travel: if coming to Victoria for this work term, BCI will provide a fixed-rate travel allowance based on your location
