Job profile

As a Design Engineer you will be responsible for designing and developing structural components for underground mining equipment particularly for Load & Haul Equipment’s, ensuring compliance with international standards, cost-effectiveness, and manufacturability. This role requires strong collaboration with R&D teams and other stakeholders to deliver optimal design solutions within Sandvik Mining Business Area in Current Product Engineering, New product Development and Order based Engineering projects.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with R&D departments to understand their needs and provide effective solutions.
• To have complete understanding assemblies in Underground Mining Equipment’s.
• Selecting appropriate materials as per the application and performance criteria.
• Designing structural parts including weldments, machining, and linkage assemblies.
• Ensure adherence to design and safety standards
• Develop simple, cost-effective designs that add value to the product.
• Create detailed manufacturing drawings with accurate weld sizes, machining requirements
• Apply correct fits, tolerances, and geometric dimensioning principles.
• Prepare BOMs and manage ECNs for production release
• Perform simple design calculations for design verification.
• Provide engineering support to current products team
• Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends.
• Communicate design ideas and results effectively to stakeholders

Your profile

Education & Experience

You have a university degree in Mechanical engineering or another relevant field (or equivalent) and between 4-6 years of experience in Design and Development of Heavy Equipment’s. You have a solid track record of designing, developing Mechanical engineering solutions.

Technical Expertise:

• Proven ability to design or modify structural assemblies, layouts, and detailed specifications.
• Ability to describe basic machine mechanisms and their applications
• Strong fundamentals in Mechanical Engineering
• Expertise in structural parts design, including Sheetmetal design
• Familiarity with manufacturing and assembly processes.
• Solid understanding of fits, tolerances, and GD&T principles.
• Basic knowledge of hydraulic systems in relevant applications.
• Basic understanding of Engine assembly and its accessories.
• Working knowledge of international design standards.
• Hands-on experience in Unigraphics NX & Teamcenter

Communication and Collaboration Skills:

• Excellent communication skills for interaction with customers, team members, and cross-functional units.
• Collaborative mindset for decision-making and delivering optimal design solutions.
• Ability to work as part of a team to design complex prototypes.

Experience in Heavy Mining equipment designs space with exposure towards mining/construction or heavy machinery industry data is regarded as a merit.
