As the Application Lead / Solution Designer, you will be responsible for designing, developing and assisting in the maintenance and support of several of our critical enterprise applications. While the initial focus will rest on .NET-based systems, we are looking for an individual with the enthusiasm to migrate these capabilities to our AWS platform. Within the .NET realm, we require varied skills in application development (including GUI), database (SQL Server) integrations, and ad-hoc reporting. You will lead the technical design and implementation of new features, improve existing functionalities, and assist in migrating legacy applications to the AWS cloud. This role offers the opportunity to be part of a team that is modernizing the retail and wholesale IT solution landscapes, using the latest technologies and best practices to build scalable, efficient solutions.Minimum Requirements:
Technical Expertise:
Proficiency in .NET technologies including C#, Apache2 Ubuntu, ASP.Net Core Strong experience with SQL Server (T-SQL, stored procedures, optimization)
Experience with AWS cloud or hybrid cloud technologies (e.g., EC2, Lambda, RDS, S3)
Experience with DevOps practices and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
Relevant certifications in AWS or Microsoft technologies
Additional Skills:
Experience in migrating legacy systems to cloud platforms (AWS preferred)
Familiarity with basic concurrency concepts (threads, locks, mutexes)
Strong experience with CI/CD pipelines, developer automation, and automated testing tools
Experience in establishing development patterns and best practices
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Soft Skills:
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Zeal for learning new technologies and to innovate and modernize solutions
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Strong analytical and decision-making abilities
Computer Science degree or equivalent industry experience
8 years of experience in a related role
Responsibilities:
Ongoing support, Lead the support, maintenance, and optimization efforts of our national Carwash systems; this application is supported by our outsourced partner and you will guide and collaborate with them
Application Development: Design, develop, and maintain applications using .NET technologies (C#, Apache2 Ubuntu, ASP.Net Core)
Cloud Migration: Lead and support the migration of legacy applications to the AWS cloud environment, leveraging AWS services for scalability and efficiency
Database Management: Design, develop, and maintain SQL Server databases, including query optimization, stored procedures, and performance tuning. When needed, you will work with and be supported by our centralized Database team
Collaboration & Solution Design: Work with business and IT teams to gather requirements, architect solutions, and implement new features
Continuous Improvement: Identify and recommend process improvements, optimizations, and best practices for software development and cloud architecture
CI/CD & Automation: Drive the adoption of CI/CD pipelines and developer automation, including automated testing, to improve code quality and deployment efficiency
Technical Communication: Work with different Business groups for new feature requests, road mapping, and other strategic direction-setting opportunities

This is an office-based role. You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
