Job Summary: Under the management of the Lab Manager or designee, this employee performs technical and non-technical duties within the Laboratory. Duties include but not limited to WellStar Hospital Information System (HIS) Patient Care system registration, WellStar HIS Patient Care system laboratory test order entry. Contacting or notifying physicians of issues with orders, resolving customer service issues. This position also includes contacting nurses, physicians of notification values (critical) and recording information for Read Back (RBAC). This position may also be required to perform send-out duties if designated by facility. This position also includes other responsibilities such as maintaining standing order system so that State Regulations are followed, assisting Patient Access Services with any questions regarding lab patients, pending logs, and staying up to date on all HIS revisions and additions. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Perform Patient registration (specimens received from physician offices). - Verify all patient demographics information utilizing the HIS system to confirm patient registration has been completed and test ordered from the Physicians office (clinical lab only) - Verify all patient demographics in the HIS Patient Care system are accurate. - Partner with Lab and/or Pathology to ensure paperwork is completed and delivered appropriately. Additionally, confirm order placement and delivery of specimen. Perform Patient order entry. - Determine patient has been registered and test ordered from physician office. - Partner with other departments to resolve flow issues. - Complete order entry of lab tests to include standing orders and/or drop off specimens ordered by physician. Call Back of Notification and Critical Values - Call back notification and critical values enter a que in the Lab Information System (LIS) that Staff will use to make a call to the physician/nurse and give them this information regarding their patient. Staff member must make this call within 30 minutes of result entering que. RBAC information is recorded, name report given, title, time, date. If unable to make contact, message is left, and then a follow up call is made 10-15 minutes later. Every effort must be made to give this crucial information to the physician/nurse. Every call in the que must be made or passed on to the Supervisor or designee before leaving for the day. Send Outs (if designated by facility) - Prepare Meconium Drug Screens and Metabolic Screening tests for send out to the reference lab. - Scan results into EPIC from reference lab testing. - Charge out chain of custody drug screens. - Contact reference labs as needed to follow up on problems Customer Service Support - Complies with AIDET standards always - Assist physicians with questions regarding patient testing. Work with Medical Technologists, if needed. - Keep work areas stocked and verify all equipment is operational. - Fax lab results as requested, following policy of type reports that can be faxed. - Assist clinical lab/pathology with any requests as appropriate. (i.e., filing, checking tops for correct information, input information into Pathology Information System of patient demographics. Required Minimum Education: High school diploma Required or equivalent Required Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s): All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
    Additional License(s) and Certification(s): Required Minimum Experience: Minimum 1 year of previous computer skills Required and Minimum 1 year of Customer Service experience in Health Care environment Preferred Required Minimum Skills: Requires excellent customer service skills, able to demonstrate good communication skills, requires efficient and accurate computer skills, must be able to work and maintain professional demeanor under stressful conditions requires sufficient multi-tasking and organizational skills, must be able to gracefully maintain composure in difficult situations.
