Are you ready to put your experience to work at Northrop Grumman? If so, our Defense Systems wants you to join our Team as a P-8 Principal Mechanical Engineer. This position is located Lake Charles, LA.

The Navy P8-A is based on the Boeing 737- 800 platform. The P-8 operates in anti-submarine warfare (ASW), anti-surface warfare (ASUW), and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) roles. This is a maintenance and sustainment program performing depot level operations. 

***This program is contingent on contract award and has an anticipated start date of October 2024. ***

​Your duties as a Principal Mechanical Engineer for the P-8 Program will include (but not be limited to):

  • Providing liaison support and developing detailed structural analyses in support of drawing release or aircraft repairs including but not limited to free body diagrams, internal or external loading and calculation of internal stresses.
  • Analyses will be in support of Material Review Board (MRB), Aircraft Structural Integrity Program (ASIP) and fleet management activities.
  • Knowledge of Airworthiness Directives (ADs), Service Bulletins (SBs), large transport aircraft structural design criteria, nonstandard repair and equivalent strength analysis is a plus.
  • Provides technical guidance to liaison engineers in the design and substantiation of aircraft structural repairs.

Basic Qualifications:

1.  Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with minimum 5 years stress/structural analysis or related engineering experience in aircraft production or maintenance engineering; 3 Years with Masters.

2.  Experience with classical static strength hand analysis

3.  Experience in substantiation of aircraft structural repairs

4.  Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance


Preferred Qualifications:

1. A current Secret DoD clearance

2. Stress analysis experience on Naval Aviation programs

3.  Masters degree in Engineering

4.  Experience with the P-8 aircraft or B737 platform

5.  Experience with MRO engineering operations

6.  Experience with Material Review Board operations

7.  A&P certificate

8. Experience with aircraft weight and balance

9. Experience performing Fatigue and Damage Tolerance analysis

Salary Range: $84,200.00 - $126,400.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
