The role is based in Amman, Jordan, reporting to Head Legal & Contract Management (MEA). The candidate (he/she) is required to have a minimum of 10 years’ experience working for a law firm or an in-house position dealing with the construction and or utility industry, engineering or manufacturing.
You will support the AMEA business unit in respect of legal and contract management matters relating to engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) projects, major procurements with clients, partners, sub-contractors and suppliers globally, including certain corporate secretarial matters.
The selected candidate will be working closely with the AMEA management team, internal clients, engineers, technical teams and commercial management on all issues relevant to the Company for legal and contract management. As the Legal Counsel, you will be responsible for ensuring that all commercial proposals/transactions are carried out in compliance with the Company’s policies and governance rules.
What will you do?
- Support and provide advice to Linxon in all legal, commercial & contract management matters, primarily in contract and procurement matters.
- Provide legal advice in relation to corporate legal matters for AMEA region
- Provide overflow legal and corporate secretariat support where needed
- Analyze contracts considering corporate guidelines and policies and interest of project stakeholders.
- Willing to learn how claims and disputes are handled in construction and EPC projects and take ownership thereafter.
- Support country integrity officer in integrity matters, and integrity training of Linxon employees
- Provide legal advice and opinions on risks and related commercial issues
- Participate in the negotiation process of various contracts with clients, joint ventures, sub-contractors and suppliers
- Interpret laws, decrees, and any other document of a legal nature, ensuring that the interests of the company are adequately protected
- Participate in the application and follow up of the company s’ policies, procedures, and internal rules
- Draft contractual correspondences in consultation with PM as required
- Participate in project reviews, propose and support mitigation actions as required
- Monitor subcontractor obligations to ensure contractual milestones are being met, exercise contractual remedies,
- Ensure local tax, bonding, insurance & customs issues are identified and addressed
- Handle contract close-out obligations, including warranty commencement, closure of financial instruments, closure of subcontracts
- Maintain contract management tools, filings and systems.
- Manages risks to avoid delays or reputational damage
- Opportunity management, both towards customers and the contracted supply chain partners / sub-contractors.
- Aware of Safety, Health and Environmental requirements for the projects and make sure that SHE is implemented to the highest standards in alignment to Linxon’s, and customers, governance / requirements.
- Ensures permits and legal papers are secured ahead of the project start
Experience and Education Required:
- Degree in Law. LLM or JD is preferred.
- Member in good standing of a bar association in Amman Jordan, preferable but not mandatory.
- Sound commercial and business law background with a minimum of 10 years’ experience related to engineering, construction, manufacturing, utilities or other heavy industry including having familiarity with all FIDIC books.
- Willing to travel occasionally to project sites in the AMEA region
- Ability to provide timely and sound expert legal, commercial and contract management advice, and work as part of a small close-knit team, in a demanding, fast-paced, multilingual and multidisciplinary environment.
- A strategic communicator, self-motivated, with a commercial, practical, methodical, detail- oriented, flexible and dynamic approach.
- Experience or courses in pricing, contract law, contract drafting, administration and negotiation of change orders, effective correspondence, planning and scheduling.
- Thorough knowledge of prime contract administration office and field procedures and documents relating to a construction project.
- Working knowledge of engineering/construction industry contracting practices, applicable government and commercial regulations and practices, procedures and work practices.
- Excellent proficiency in English, any other languages a plus; with excellent drafting skills and attention to detail.
