Job Description Summary:

This position provides professional pharmacy services to patients in retail setting regarding safe and effective medication usage. Responsible for reviewing, verifying, and dispensing medication orders accurately while following all applicable laws, as well as company policies. Works with other pharmacists, technicians, pharmacy manager, and other healthcare providers to care for patients in a patient centered and empathetic manner.

Position Responsibilities

  • Performs duties relating to dispensing of medication.
    • Reviews written prescriptions to assure the prescription does not result in overdose, toxicity, or other hazard if filled as prescribed, and if necessary, requests clarification from the medical practitioner or nurse.
    • Verifies patient medication history and monitors for drug/drug interactions, adverse reactions, allergies or other drug related problems.
    • Fills orders and packages labels appropriately.
    • Follows established policies and procedures and standard practices for packaging and labeling medications; rechecks labels for accuracy and compliance with all federal, state, and local codes and regulations before dispensing medication.
    • Participates in all functions and activities of the department, including Quality Assessment, Drug Utilization Evaluations, and other various duties as assigned by the pharmacy supervisor.
    • Consults with medical staff, nursing staff and other departmental personnel providing pharmaceutical information and recommendations whenever necessary or requested.

  • Performs duties relating to purchasing and receiving functions in the absence of the Pharmacy Supervisor.
    • Sees that pharmacy is stocked with essential drugs and pharmaceuticals, and performs related purchasing and receiving duties.
    • Regularly inspects department for compliance with established standards and policies and procedures, and reports violations to the Pharmacy Supervisor.
    • Sees that appropriate records are maintained of all drugs and any other controlled substances that are stored in or dispensed from the pharmacy.
    • Checks incoming merchandise, marks invoices for payment, and routes to the business office; follows established procedures for disposition of damaged goods and for handling shipping or invoice errors; verifies prices and updates pricing in Pioneer Rx.
    • Periodically checks and removes outdated or otherwise unusable items from stock removes recall items from stock as soon as notified.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    • Reports any violation or suspected violation of this Code or other hospital policies or procedures to supervisor, Compliance Officer or through the compliance hotline.
    • Attends and/or completes mandatory training regarding organizational compliance.

Education and Experience Requirements

Requires: B.Sc. degree in Pharmacy or Pharm.D. from an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy; Montana Pharmacy license in good standing with no prior disciplinary actions.  Requires current CPR or AHA BLS certification or ability to obtain within 2 months of hire.

Desire: Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a hospital setting, automated medication dispensing stations, Hospital Information System (ex: McKesson Paragon) application experience, competency in basic word processing, spread sheet, and data base software.

Variable - 10 Hours (United States of America)

Logan Health operates 24 hours per day, seven days per week.  Schedules are set to accommodate the requirements of the position and the needs of the organization and may be adjusted as needed.
