Job Description:

What will you do?

  • Help lead the day-to-day operational support, renewal, enhancement, and compliance and security initiatives for Corporate applications.
  • Manage software engineering team with a wide range of skill levels and a diverse set of technologies.
  • Participate in capacity planning and lead overall career development of software engineering team
  • Build and lead a high-performance team, providing mentorship and coaching to team members, and fostering a positive and collaborative team culture
  • Ensure adherence to the standards and procedures for system implementation using Sun Life directive for change management to ensure reliability, accessibility, integrity, and security.
  • Understand, measure, and help remediate any issues related to the standard operations metrics for changes, incidents, problems as well as the SLAs for business partners.
  • Maintain effective communication channels within and across all IT teams and vendors. Act as the liaison between these departments and their business partners.
  • Proactively and reactively resolve business and IT challenges.

      
What will you need to succeed?

  • Minimum 2 years of IT team management
  • 5+ years of progressive information technology experience with full software development life cycle and systems integration experience, and exposure to a broad range of technologies.
  • Strong background in application development, technology, and operations support.
  • People leadership that empowers others to fail, learn, and grow.
  • Strong vendor management skills – partnering, understanding roadmaps, pushing as necessary.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, influencing, and organizational skills
  • Mindset to drive innovation and continuous improvement, embraces change
  • Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in computer science / engineering or related field.
  • Experience with applications running on-prem and cloud (AWS)
  • Experience with Disaster Recovery.
  • Understanding of DevOps, Agile practices, and ITIL methodologies

Notes/Unique requirements:

  • Occasional weekend work for Disaster Recovery
  • After hours on-call escalation availability for major production issues
  • Occasional travel between Toronto and Waterloo
  • RCMP clearance

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted.  It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.  In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.  Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
