The Oregon Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking a highly skilled, mission-driven Correctional Institution Manager 1 to join the executive leadership team at South Fork Forest Camp (SFFC). This key leader serves as the Superintendent’s primary advisor on security operations, institutional safety, emergency response and interagency coordination with the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF).
This role offers a unique blend of correctional leadership, operational management, and statewide emergency response coordination – including oversight of Oregon’s largest AIC wildland firefighting program.
As the Correctional Institution Manager 1, you will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for all institution security functions. Your responsibilities include:
• Lead and oversee all institutional security functions.
• Ensure compliance with laws, policies and ACA standards.
• Supervise Lieutenants, Sergeants, Officers and staff deployment.
• Advise leadership on security, safety and sanitation issues.
• Conduct or direct investigations involving staff and AICs.
• Approve operational purchases and support daily facility needs.
• Provide security oversight for ODF staff supervising AIC work crews.
• Support field operations including wildfire response, reforestation and trail work.
• Respond with ODF to emergencies in remote locations.
• Lead DOC fire ground operations and annual crew readiness.
• Oversee the DOC Fire Dispatch Center.
• Coordinate deployment of 300+ AIC firefighters and 70+ DOC staff.
• Serve as primary liaison with ODF, fire camp commanders, and institutional fire teams.
• Serve on the SFFC and statewide Security Management Teams.
• Act as Officer‑in‑Charge or Acting Superintendent as needed.
• Provide oversight for select AIC services and facility operations.
At SFFC, you’ll be part of a mission-driven team that supports public safety, contributes to Oregon’s wildfire and emergency response networks and provides meaningful rehabilitative opportunities to AICs. Your leadership will play a critical role in strengthening operations, enhancing emergency response, and shaping the future of the DOC and ODF partnership.
This position is management services and may be eligible for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), as defined by statute.
Work is performed in an adult correctional facility that houses male adults in custody. Work may include dealing with hostile, aggressive adults in custody who may make threats to self and family. adults in custody may be verbally abusive as well as mentally or emotionally abusive. Employee subject to recall 24 hours a day in the event of an emergency and may be assigned as needed.
South Fork Forest Camp is tobacco free. Use of tobacco products are prohibited within the building or on the grounds.
This employee is responsible for preventing escapes from confinement by proper control of keys, tools and contraband and documenting the unusual incidents as they occur. During “work stoppage”, he/she would be required to fill any post assigned in the institution. This position may require a physical exertion to respond to adults in custody out of control behavior, restraint of an adults in custody; break up a fight and/or come to the aid of/defense of another person.
This employee is a member of a management team where conversations and paperwork are generated of a sensitive nature. This employee must have the ability to keep this information confidential.

The salary range listed above is for non-PERS qualifying applicants. PERS qualifying applicants may be eligible for an adjusted range to reflect an additional 6.95%.
