Financial Counselor - Dental Medicine - Full-Time - Days

The financial counselor maintains a smooth workflow within the department. Oversees the registration process to ensure patients are registered courteously, confidentially, efficiently, accurately and professionally. Interviews patients or representatives for financial and demographic data. Performs a variety of clerical duties directly related to the Admissions, Discharges and Transfers of patients according to the NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital’s policies and procedures. Work directly with physicians, nurses, affiliated and or nonaffiliated hospitals, insurance companies, Administration, and varied Hospital Departments to ensure continuity of patient care.

This is a full-time position, Monday - Friday (9:00AM - 5:00PM). This position is located at NYP/Brooklyn Methodist Hospital.

Preferred Criteria

  • Strong knowledge of dental terminology, coding, and billing

  • Ability to read and understand dental x-rays

  • Ability to work with providers to create financial plans for self-pay procedures

Required Criteria

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Minimum one year of current hospital patient registration experience and/or financial counseling/collections

  • Computer literacy

  • Strong knowledge of all medical insurance including third party insurance experience

  • Understanding of medical terminology
