Multi-site Dermatology Group Seeks Product Manager - Applications

Optima Dermatology is recruiting a Product Manager - Applications to join our Practice Support Center, based in Portsmouth, NH.

Position Details:

As a Product Manager - Applications, you will oversee the management of our applications' lifecycle, ensuring operational efficiency, incident resolution, and continuous improvement. You will be responsible for vendor management, backlog prioritization, monitoring application performance, leading business analysis efforts, and managing the development process by vendors. A key focus of this role will be Solution Design and Architecture, where you will lead the strategic direction for scalable, efficient, and high-performing application solutions. You will also play a key role in reporting, analytics, and providing strategic insights into solution design and architecture.

Responsibilities:

• Backlog Management:
  • Prioritize and manage the product backlog for application development, ensuring alignment with business goals.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to define, prioritize, and communicate product features and enhancements.
  • Ensure that the product backlog is refined, updated, and clear for development teams.
• Solution Design and Architecture:
  • Lead the design and architecture of scalable, high-performing application solutions, ensuring they are aligned wit
  • h business needs, technical constraints, and future growth.
  • Collaborate closely with technology team to define solution roadmaps, ensuring consistency, scalability, and maintainability in design.
  • Drive the selection of appropriate technologies and architectures to meet performance, reliability, and security standards.
  • Provide expert guidance on best practices for system architecture, data flow, and integration strategies for all applications under your management.
  • Lead the evaluation and integration of new technologies, tools, and methodologies that enhance the architecture and the product's ability to scale effectively.
  • Ensure that all design decisions optimize for long-term sustainability, flexibility, and security while meeting immediate product needs.
  • Act as a thought leader within the organization, guiding teams to make informed decisions about architectural trade-offs and the strategic direction of application solutions.
• DevOps Management:
  • Create and oversee DevOps processes for application deployment, automation, and scaling.
  • Work with team members to ensure a smooth, predictable bug fix and enhancement pipeline.
  • Monitor and improve operational efficiency, application uptime, and performance.
• Operational Monitoring:
  • Implement and monitor application performance and health using monitoring tools.
  • Identify trends, issues, and opportunities for optimization.
  • Ensure operational reporting is in place to track application performance, usage, and incidents.
• Operational Vendor Management:
  • Collaborate with third-party vendors to ensure service level agreements (SLAs) are met.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors to ensure the successful delivery of services.
  • Oversee contract management, performance reviews, and issue resolution with vendors.
  • Oversee the development work being performed by external vendors, ensuring alignment with project timelines and quality standards.
  • Manage the handoff of deliverables from vendors to internal teams, ensuring proper integration and knowledge transfer.
  • Maintain communication with vendors to track progress, address challenges, and ensure successful product delivery.
• Incident Management:
  • Act as an escalation point of contact for application-related incidents and outages.
  • Lead incident response, root cause analysis, and follow-up actions to mitigate future issues.
  • Collaborate with development, operations, and other teams to resolve incidents in a timely and effective manner.
• Business Analysis:
  • Conduct business analysis to understand the needs of stakeholders and translate them into technical requirements.
  • Engage with business teams to identify and evaluate opportunities for application enhancements or new features.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to improve business processes and user experiences.
• Reporting and Analytics:
  • Generate and deliver regular reports on application performance, vendor performance, incidents, and product development status.
  • Utilize data analytics to inform decision-making and continuous product improvement.
  • Provide executive-level reporting on product progress, performance, and key metrics.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
• Proven experience (5+ years) as a Product Manager, Application Manager, or in a similar role with a focus on application management, vendor relations, and solution design.
• Strong understanding of application development, solution architecture, and enterprise-level system design.
• Expertise in designing scalable, secure, and high-performance systems, with a focus on both functional and non-functional requirements.
• Excellent project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Strong business acumen with the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Solid experience with incident management and troubleshooting application issues.
• Experience with DevOps practices and pipelines, and cloud infrastructure.
• Exceptional communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally with internal and external stakeholders.
• Expertise in designing integrated solutions and using architecture principles to guide development and ensure consistency.

Preferred Skills:

• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Salesforce, Jitterbit, Modernizing Medicine, etc.
• Experience with agile methodologies and project management tools (e.g., Jira, Trello).
• Familiarity with application performance monitoring tools (e.g., New Relic, AppDynamics).
• Knowledge of security best practices in application design and management.
