Medical Records Specialist (Contract) @ Midi Health: 👩‍⚕️💻

We are seeking a detail-oriented Medical Records Specialist on a contract basis to support our team by responding to payer requests for medical records. This role involves locating, reviewing, and uploading patient records to payer portals to support insurance claims processing and documentation needs. The ideal candidate will be experienced in health information management, HIPAA compliance, and adept with electronic health records (EHR) systems (preferably Athena), as well as payor portals. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Review incoming requests from insurance companies for patient medical records, ensuring timely and accurate responses.
  • Retrieve and examine patient records from our EHR system, checking for completeness and accuracy to ensure all necessary information is present and relevant.
  • Upload the required documents securely to payer portals or send via approved methods, ensuring all documentation adheres to payer specifications and HIPAA requirements.
  • Track and document all record release activities, including dates, types of requests, and any follow-up actions.
  • Adhere strictly to HIPAA and other regulatory guidelines for protecting patient information and maintaining confidentiality during the record release process.
  • Work closely with billing and clinical staff as needed to obtain additional information or clarification on documentation requests.

What you will need to succeed: 🌱

  • Minimum of 2 years in medical records, health information management, or a similar role within healthcare.
  • Experience with EHR systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner, Athena) and familiarity with commercial payer portals (e.g., UHC, Cigna, Aetna, BCBS)
  • Ability to accurately review and verify patient information.
  • Strong ability to manage multiple requests and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for coordinating with team members and communicating with insurance companies as necessary.

Rate of Pay: $20/hr. This is a 1099 independent contractor position.
