Your role

We are looking for a talented and motivated Associate to join our Projects team in Melbourne. This is a fantastic role for a lawyer interested in working in a collaborative and high performing team advising on the some of the most complex and interesting transactions in the market.

Our Projects Team, which we are looking to grow, provides comprehensive whole-of-life advice on energy, infrastructure, project development and resources projects. The team is involved in a range of matters and transactions in the across the national market, including advising on project structuring, greenfield developments, acquisitions and disposals, project delivery, financing, and energy offtake agreements. You'll be joining a team of Projects Partners and Lawyers who are experts in Energy, Infrastructure and Construction.

Your day

Allens has one of the leading Projects practices in Australia. You'll have the opportunity to work on major transactions and Projects in the energy, infrastructure, construction, property development and resources sectors, including:

  • Acting for infrastructure market participants in relation to key project documents for the development, delivery and financing of major infrastructure projects;
  • Acting for significant players in the energy sector on key documents such as joint operating agreements, power purchase agreements, tolling and supply and offtake agreements;
  • Advising energy, infrastructure and private capital clients in relation to all aspects of acquisitions and disposals in the relevant sectors, from legal due diligence, through preparation of transaction documents, to completion.
  • Assisting clients to obtain regulatory project and transaction approvals; and
  • Advising clients seeking to construct or acquire renewable energy generation, storage and transmission projects,

This is a permanent, full-time opportunity. We have a 60:40 rule, however flexibility matters at Allens, so if you are seeking hybrid working or are looking for flexibility in your work, we would be happy to discuss what arrangements would work best for you.

Your clients

Our Projects practice acts for many of the largest and most active Australian and multinational energy, infrastructure, private capital, resources companies, gas and electricity industry participants and government organisations.

You will have access to the firm's extensive client base to explore and develop new opportunities and deliver outstanding service. You will act for a wide range of clients, each with unique and challenging work environments.

We mobilise quickly, listen to client concerns and base our recommendations on what's most important to them.

About you

To succeed in this role you will need:

  • Experience advising on a broad range of project development transactions in the infrastructure and/or energy sectors at a well-regarded international or Australian, including a boutique, firm.
  • An ability to work independently and effectively manage smaller matters an elements of larger matters.
  • A strong team ethic, this aspect of our culture is of key importance to us.
  • A willingness to participate in business development activities, such as pitch documents, firm-wide
  • pursuits, attending industry events and hosting seminars.
  • An ability to establish a professional profile and internal networks.
