Job Description:

Discover will not sponsor or transfer employment work visas for this position.  Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

As a Sr Associate Application Engineer, you’ll partner with product designers and user experience experts to create the ultimate experience for our award winning mobile app and website. This role is 90% mobile user interface development with some web and API work.  By understanding our users and the interconnected network within Discover, you’ll develop a delightful user experience.  Additionally, you will actively manage and escalate risks and customer-impacting issues within the day-to-day role to management. 

Responsibilities 
  • Completes most features and user stories including test cases and automation with minimal support but may need coaching/guidance for more complex tasks.
  • Analyze, code, test, and deploy new user stories and features with high quality (security, reliability, observability) to production. 
  • Contributes to agile ceremonies, participates in demos and presentations, learns and follows established norms, and participates in technology communities.
  • Participates in system design decisions and learns how these decisions impact the product as a whole.
  • Learns to support production systems and understands how observed events and failures impact the product.
  • Achieves team commitments by using informal leadership & strong communication skills. 
 
Minimum Qualifications 
At a minimum, here’s what we need from you: 
  • Bachelors – Computer Science or related 
  • 1+ Years – Information Technology, (Software) Engineering, or related 
  • Internal applicants only: technical proficiency rating of Advanced Beginner on the Competency engineering scale 

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with React Native (or React JS), Redux, and Frontend application frameworks
  • Experience as part of an Agile engineering or development team
Bonus Points If You Have: 
  • Experience with Java, Spring Boot microservices
  • Exposure to distributed cloud solutions with experience in any public cloud like AWS, Azure and/or OCP
  • Good understanding of object-oriented principles with an ability to write clean code
  • Understanding of software testing principles and methodologies
  • Test automation skills with tools such as Appium and RNTL
  • Experience with unit testing, Selenium, and/or cucumber
  • Fintech/Financial Services experience

Compensation:

The base pay for this position generally ranges between $71,500.00 to $121,100.00. Additional incentives may be provided as part of a market competitive total compensation package. Factors, such as but not limited to, geographical location, relevant experience, education, and skill level may impact the pay for this position.
