Our Product Support and Logistics Division (PSLD) is one of the most innovative divisions within Caterpillar. In PSLD, as within all of Caterpillar, our priority is our customers and helping them build a better world. We touch nearly every element of the services value stream from procurement to design and manufacturing to distribution. PSLD is responsible for Aftermarket Parts Distribution of Cat Parts, Integrated Logistics, segment Procurement and the design and manufacture of Wear Components (Undercarriage and GET) and Maintenance Components (Seals, Tubes & Hardware, Hose & Couplings, Fluids and Filters).
As the Manager, Packaging you will be responsible for managing a team of Packaging Engineers who develop returnable and expendable packaging solutions for strategic, innovative, sometimes complex, and network-wide projects and processes.

What You Will Do:
- Lead or support the team in solving, oftentimes, complex technical problems, work with cross-functional teams to develop process and tools, as well as mentor, coach, and share packaging design and processes to global and regional team members for replication and/or improvement.
- Help design and follow global packaging processes and promote packaging technology systems to regional packaging and customer groups.
- Report and upload data/information to enterprise packaging system.
- Manage and prioritize the workload of some offshore resources in support of domestic onsite engineers.
- Responsible for communicating to customers, suppliers, team members, and other business units about developed packaging documentation.
- Other duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time-to-time.

- Package Graphic Visualization: Knowledge of visualization tools and techniques; ability to create images to communicate abstract messages on packages to a target audience.
- Advises others on how to use graphic visualization to express complicated ideas.
- Analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of introducing new technologies into package graphic visualization.
- Evaluates best practices of package graphic visualization to improve design concepts and techniques within the organization.
- Recommends appropriate design concepts based on client needs.
- Packaging: Knowledge of packaging tools, approaches and practices; ability to package products and components safely and attractively.
- Evaluates different packaging materials while analyzing costs and benefits.
- May research, pilot, and implement intelligent packaging technologies with direct reports and process partners.
- Advises on packaging quality control and packaging/product interactions.
- Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing environment.
- Evaluates business impact of failure and the criticality and timing of needed resolution.
- Resolves difficult or high-impact systems problems.
- Coaches’ others how to resolve integration or communications problems.
- Applies specific techniques for isolating a problem and defining resolution approach.
What Will Set You Apart (Preferred Qualifications):
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, or Business Administration.
- Previous experience leading – indirectly/directly – research and development of application new packaging technology and materials.
- APICS Certification, Qualification as a Caterpillar Production System (CPS) Support Team Leader, or CPS functional job role, of Lean Leader.
- Lean and/or 6 Sigma Black Belt Certification/Experience.
- Previous experience in Manufacturing Engineering, Logistics Management, Caterpillar Product Group/Management, New Product Introduction (NPI/NSI).
- Previous experience in Energy and Transportation (E&T) business.
