About Our Team

Our team operates within the Data Operations department, maximizing the value of Elsevier's high-quality scientific content. We handle high-visibility projects, leveraging Data Science, Machine Learning, and NLP expertise. We are responsible for end-to-end development, aiming to extract valuable information from scientific content published or submitted for publication.

About the Role

As a Data Scientist, you will bring your Data Science, Machine Learning, and NLP expertise to various projects. You will collaborate with technology teams, product managers, and domain experts to build high-value data products and capabilities based on our extensive catalog of scientific content. Your work will significantly impact processes that affect our customer-facing products.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Product Owners and Software Engineers to translate business needs into data science projects and define quality metrics.
  • Propose end-to-end solutions for complex problems in content analysis, utilizing diverse technical and human resources.
  • Develop and report Machine Learning models by analyzing data requirements to identify improvements in methodology and performance.
  • Ensure best practices are followed, such as experiment reproducibility and responsible data science principles, to align processes.
  • Work with the Machine Learning Ops team to deliver robust deployment and usage of Machine Learning models in production.
  • Suggest and implement innovative ideas to improve operations content, leveraging new methods, resources, and perspectives.

Requirements

  • Hold at least a BSc degree in a technological or quantitative field with two to five years of experience.
  • Display excellent knowledge of deep learning models such as LLMs, Transformers, Graph Networks, and Multimodal networks.
  • Proficiency in working with either Pytorch or TensorFlow.
  • Demonstrate deep knowledge of advanced Machine Learning concepts and the state-of-the-art (SoTA) techniques.
  • Coding proficiency using related open-source libraries and frameworks.
  • Strong knowledge of modern Python programming.
  • Understand and execute complex methods within your discipline, industry, and domain.
  • Ability to scope and build best practices around the usage of Data Science frameworks.
