Assistant General Counsel – Technology Licensing

Micron is seeking an experienced, business-facing attorney to join its rapidly growing, world class Legal Department. The attorney will be a trusted business partner to Micron’s multi-billion-dollar technology and business teams and will be responsible for a wide range of complex licensing engagements and IP transactions. The attorney will interact closely with Micron’s leadership teams to develop strategies for achieving technology and business goals while protecting IP and managing risk. Responsibilities include the following:

  • Provide pragmatic legal advice and solutions to support technology and business teams in meeting strategic goals and enhancing customer relationships
  • Serve as trusted advisor to engineering and business teams on IP and technology licensing engagements.  Proactively identify issues, drive projects, make complex cost/benefit assessments, and identify creative legal and business solutions
  • Structure and lead negotiation of licensing transactions in various technology areas ranging from early-stage research to product design to manufacturing
  • Review, draft and negotiate a broad range of technology and IP agreements, including technology licensing, joint development, university research, product integration, equipment development, technology transfer, software licensing, consortia, standard setting, and other technology-driven engagements
  • Provide advice on government-funded research programs and negotiate government contracts, subcontracts and grants related to development of technology with federal agencies, national laboratories and government-funded groups, including CHIPS, NSTC, NAPMP and other R&D programs
  • Partner effectively with M&A teams to facilitate IP due diligence and draft associated IP agreements
  • Provide day-to-day legal advice to build and protect Micron’s IP assets.  Develop an intimate understanding of emerging technologies relevant to Micron. Work both autonomously and collaboratively to juggle competing priorities in a fast-paced, challenging environment
  • Assist in developing and training on corporate policies and procedures, such as open source, trade secret protection, data security, confidentiality, and contract compliance

Qualifications

The ideal candidate has:

  • At least seven years of experience drafting and negotiating complex IP licensing agreements, along with an excellent working and practical knowledge of IP law across geographies
  • A strong executive presence in interactions with senior leadership
  • The ability to collaborate and build relationships, gain credibility, and partner with others
  • Eye for business, a strategic perspective, and a high degree of ethics and integrity
  • Experience working in an in-house legal environment
  • Top law firm and corporate experience in the semiconductor or adjacent industry

Education, Admission, and Geographic Requirements

  • JD from an ABA accredited law school and a current member of the bar in good standing
  • Located within a reasonable distance from Micron office, or willing to relocate
